IF and this is a big IF, I should be able to build some 3 in. dp later this winter, how many people would be interested? My biggest hurdle is getting the 3/8 thick flanges made. A few years back I had the facilities to make them my self. Now I will have to get someone to machine them for me. These would be for use with an external wastegate. I spoke to Terry huston last year about buying the flange with the WG built in---$150-- so you can see the price gets way out there. Plus they require some extra work. Thanks---Lee

that would be too cool

I would buy 1 for certain, possibly a second if the price is around $300+ range. But I need 1 and would make it worth someone's while for a quality 3" DP. Hope I didn't confuse you with my reply but I am hurtin' like a Murtain for one. I have a smaller aftermarket unit coming but as you know it's not the same. I would be very grateful to you Lee if you decide to help me and the other guys and gals out. I would be willing to send a deposit or pay upfront to be put on the list.

I was just getting ready to try to make my own. I will take one. What kind of $ are we talking here?

HELL YEA!!!!!

:D Count me in  ! Anything you and "BIG DADDY", decide to sell, count me IN  . I can't wait..... I fell like a "BIG KID" in a candy store.

Keep up the great work.....

my brother has one of the old ones that you made its a three peice i think that bolts together , i was going to have someone try to make one like his. But if you are going to do this then iam in for sure , put me down for one and i wont back out thats for sure.

I think i still have the one u made for me Leeo...or did i give it back to you??

me too!

I would for sure buy one too! as soon as i get the $$$$ together. But a few questions. How hard will this be to install? And can you use it with the stock setup ie still having the A/C? Will there be enough room without burning anything up? Thanks

I would be interrested in one. Can I see a pic of one with an external wastegate, and how much do external gates usually run.

Thanks Burnout

STP!!!

Scott, I don/t have yours. A vendor was trying to buy one at BG. Remember? Sell yours to one of these guys who is in a hurry for one. If I make them it will be later this winter.

Yah i remember that vendor who didn't want to pay hardly anything for it :) It's a proven pipe no doubt...I went 11.20's on it and you have gone mid 10's on it. Fit well too, even with those early style Kenne Bell headers i had on my car. Just goes to show you should never underestimate a hillbilly's handiwork : )

STP!!!!

I was told that Reid (TURBO SPECIALTIES) was making 3" Downpipes that looked exactly like Leoo's. I have not had a chance to go by his shop and check. I have decided to duplicate your "Refrigerator White" T Type. I am still debating whether it will be intercooled. I have toyed with running straight methanol, this eliminate the need for a intercooler. I still have my 85 SVO and it is going to be a alcoholic very soon... If you still have your downpipe, I would be interested. Email me. BTW, I found a burned up (Light Blue T Type, just like Leeo's) that had the exact setup that you had in your White T Type. This guy (Maitlan, was the name he went by)was a Fairfield Car Clinic (Larry), and had a tranny put in (Charlie's Transmission, Hueytown) and 2 weeks later, the car burns. I took pix of the car before it burned. It also had one of Leeo's downpipes and wastegates. I have been after this guy to sell me the burnt car. The fire gutted the interior, but the motor was not hurt. If I can buy this car, I will be a little ahead of the GAME....

Lee, PM me with some info on what you would need for flange material and specs...If you could email me a drawing with the dimensions of the flange and what type of material you would need, I may know someone here locally to me that may be able to do it and be fairly reasonable on price...I could get you a quote for x number of flanges, etc and let you know...

Chuck, that car you're speaking of belonged to a guy named Malcolm initially. I had a hand in building that car, hence some of Lee's parts on it. It ran pretty good, probably a high 11 low 12 sec car on tires. I heard he was street racing the car quite a bit, then not long after it mysteriously caught fire.....I have an 84 light blue T sitting in my driveway that I was gonna build a stage 2 car out of...Car runs but needs some body panels replaced on driver side...Need to move the car. I'll have to dig around and find the 3" pipe i had, amazing how many parts one can accumulate...Lata Scott Porter

BTW I doubt Turbo Specialties is producing 3" hot air downpipes...

Guys from birmingham, I too have a 84 light royal blue metallic t type and have never seen another one anywhere in the area(im from birmingham originally),and I know Reid at turbo specialties can make the 3 in down pipe, he made me one , it doesnt have an external WG and is a 2 peice design ,fits real well sorry for cutting in on your thread Lee

DP

I am in the process of getting all the components together. This will take a few weeks. Maybe sometime after the first of the year I will be completing some.
Price will be $375 shipped.
Sorry I don/t have any pics.
These will be 3 pieces,--- starting at the turbo, remove the factory cast elbow ( the piece that the current dp bolts to )First piece is a flat flange (3/8 thick) that bolts up to turbo--short turn toward the front of car ( around 45 degree )--90 degree ell pointing toward the a-arm ---2 bolt flat flange at about the same height as the spark plugs. Second piece goes from there to about half way to the bottom of car. Third piece goes on to bottom and points toward the rear. So there will be a flange at about the spark plug level--one at about the place where the body and fire wall join ( there is a lip there will need to be trimed) and one where the exhaust hooks up. ( this is not a direct bolt up to factory exhaust system)---Sorry not enough room
Yes, they will clear heater box--May need to trim some of the sheet metal shield covering heater box. I just tossed mine.
This is a very close fit all the way to the bottom. Mine has a small dent from touching the a-arm at times. Not a problem, but no way around it. Thanks---Lee
