Wonder what it went for.
It has not sold yet, its supposed to be up today and be televised around 1pm CST is when it should come up.

I do not see any other Turbo Regals on the list, 906 or 1035 as mentioned above?? I did tape it last night, should have 1035 on the tape, but it says its a 1953 Buick something on the list..

I looked at what taped last night, lot 1035 was a '53 Buick Skylark. Unless you are talking about a previous year auction, there's no other GNs on this year except for John's mentioned above.

209 cid?

"The 209 cubic inch, 1,292 horse powered, twin turbo V-6 was built, powered and tuned by the renowned Kenny Duttweiler."

Is that right? Isn't the stock 3.8L a 231 cubic inch? Why would you go smaller? Just seems kinda weird to me, most people go to the 4.1L which is 272 cubic inch right? Maybe it is suppposed to be 309 cubic inch? I'm not complaining about it, I'd still take it...

No, It's definitely 209 CI. I'm probably not the one to answer this, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with class rules..... cubic inches vs. weight or something like that.

The 70 Chevelle LS-6 FOR $300,000 - I bought one new for $3775 in March 1970 as a GM employe. I still have all the paperwork including the original hand written order and the warranty papers. I have been doing a lot crying though as I sold the car in in 73 or 74 for $2000 after I got married.
When the 87 GN's came out I told my wife we are buying one and not selling it like we did the LS-6. We don't ever plan to sell the GN - UNLESS its for $300,000.

Well, it was a convertible LS6 and supposed to be the highest optioned one in existance but still wild...I think there's only 17 or so verts, right?

And now if she ever asks or thinks about selling the GN, you can always reference what happened to the LS-6 :) Of course that one was very rare as Mark points out, but I still see not so rare Chevelle's going for the $60k-$90k range depending on options.

Yeah, in those listings, the 'xxxx-BJCCA' indicates the year in which the auction took place where 'xxxx' is the year.
You should be able to pull up listings of those individual years on their site and pullup the full descriptions of each of those cars, maybe the GNX had high mileage than the GN or something that made the GN go for more money.
Results from this year are here: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/auctionresults/common/bj05results.asp

In 1998 lot#775 was a GNX with the engine detailed in 24k gold, with 1800 miles sold for $28k, but a year earlier in 97 a GNX with 6k miles sold for more at $29k. The GN you mention that sold for $24k had 47 original miles!

You can go here to pull up details of any past cars in past years:

Yes John's car is 209 cubic inches...

SS/DX class rules have a cubic inch to weight ratio that made it necessary to go smaller. Still packing over 1200 HP though!

ok

That make sense I guess. I wonder what combo was used to get 209 cid. Deck the block and heads like mad? Then the comp ratio would be too high for all that boost. Hum... Maybe 231 block and 3.1L heads, kind of like the old Chevy 302 in '68? I guess I'll do some research on my own, sorry to steal this thread... If anybody wants to buy my turbo-t for $300k, drop me a line.:D
