I want to out a 350 in a monte SS but want to do it on budget. I have experience rebuilding motors. Is a 305-30 a direct swap. Motor mounts line right up al head and block bolts are in the same location? Also, when I start looking for a motor which 350 would yield me the best results? Lt1,LT4 and out of what car? Looking for one with good heads. I would probally stay away from anything with fuel injection or tpi due to assortment of pieces need to complete he conversion. Would also like to keep the airconditioning? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I dont really understand...the 286/305/327/350/383/400 are all the same block...just different bores and strokes...seems like a straight swap to me(maybe the new blocks are slightly diff - I havent kept up on them). If you jsut grab a long block out of a wrecked car, you could probably grab the turn key engine for a pretty decent price - ther are plenty of wrecked F-body/truck parts suppliers on the web.

someone needs to move this to the new v-8 swap forum!!!!!!!! or just post in there!!!!

Yup, it's a direct swap. As has been stated above they are the same block so you should be able to reuse everything including the crappy Q-jet carb that the computer likes to fight with.

Both the V8 Swap forum and v8buick.com would be a good place to read up on this sort of thing, but Monte Carlo SS Information & Resources is probably your best bet. They're a pretty good group of guys and I believe a partner site of ours. Even if they do feel the need to end every plural word with SS (i.e. carSS).
