Hi fellas,
I am new to this forum and I am "new" to Buicks. In fact, Buicks are very scarse in my country. So, please pardon me if I sound very stupid.
I found this 4.1 engine and it looks perfect for my Willys jeep that needs an engine. According to the previous owner it came out of a FWD Riviera and it has very low mileage (20 000). (The owner wanted more power and swoped a V8 into it.) Unfortunately it is without a flywheel or flex plate. Now, I learned that a flex plate/ flywheel must be balanced for these engines. My chances to get one in South Africa are very slim, so I will have to import it. The weight of of a flywheel will make shipping too expensive, so I guess I will have to go for a flex plate and put a Turbo 350 auto transmission on it. I have a Chevy TH350 and I don't think it will be too hard to adapt it to the Buick engine. (I can get a TH350 to jeep transfer case adapter for $270.)
My questions:
Can I use a 3.8 V6 flex plate on the 4.1 or is the balancing different?
Does the 4.1 use a flex plate with 160 teeth?
And the big question: Where can I get a flex plate? (If anyone has one and is willing to ship it to South Africa, please let me know.)
What do you think?
If anyone has any comments or advice, I will appreciate it.
Thanks
Frans
