400 Trans

What specific GM vehicles used the 400 trans that will bolt up to the 3.8? Is there anything special that is needed? What is a good price for a one in need of a rebuild?? Thanks guys

68' and up
Look for any full sized cars made by Buick, Olds, Pontiac, and Cadillac
I can snag them out of my local u-pull junk yard for no more than $60 (complete)

Alot of the big cars had long tail units. Look for a short tail unit.

Might as well start out with less work and expense.

if you call any auto recycling yard ask for a short tailshaft b.o.p. turbo 400 trans. If they sound confused then call another because they must be not very good at their job. Stick with the mom & pop style junk yards that deal with the older cars most of the modern salvage yards don't touch anything that old.
