Does the 400 trans with the Olds bell housing bolt right
in to the 87 GN aith out any driveshaft modifications?? also
what gear shoud be installled in the diff to compensate for
for difference in gearing on the trans.
 
I think I can answer part of your question....if you get a TH400 with a short tailshaft, it should be the right length. I don't think you need to change your gearing in the differencial, although 1st and 2nd gears are not going to be as low as in a 2004R.
 
ypu must change to a 400 yoke and shorten 1 inch .the original gn crossmember ,cooler lines ,shift linkage ,speedometer ,all will work and if you want to have the same low gear as the 2004r we make in house a 2.75/1.57 ratio gearset .www.ckperformance .com
