what is the difference in one of these and the TTA one?

Chris, I know you stay really strung out but if you get a chance could you explain what is the diffrence between a brf valve body and a regular one like in a station wagon? I am sure I am not the only one courious, just the only one willing to ask lol. Thanks man! Oh and fred is going to build my tranny for me down here and he will be ordering the parts from you this coming week. Thanks!!!!!!!! Daniel Ray

the main differences are at what road speed in mph and engine rpm the upshifts take place.most tta and gn brf valve bodies will work identical and differences between them will never be noticed by most however the tta code will shift earlier at light throttle than the gn.also if one investigates the area that detent downshift oil is applied to the shift valves it will show that identical governer pressures between the 2 types works on different land areas between them.also the montecarloss will produce later road speed and higher rpm upshifts over the tta and brf with all 3 using the same weight secondary governor weights because it uses heavier shift valve springs and shift valve land diameters.basically a brf valve body and governor used with a 2.73 rear axle olds g body w/307 will shift super late in road speed(require higher road speeds) even with proper tv adjustment because it requires additional road speed to generate enough governor oil to open the shift valves in sequence.this is why there are vehicle specific calibrations in the form of special valve body and governor combinations. all brf tta and mcss codes are interchangeable and the mcss produces the best results with modded gn motors as well as produces excellent passing gear characteristics.now a 350 or 400 is a different story ,its all about the governor for the most part.

I would be interested in one of the valve bodies. I have posted before that I am having problems with a newly rebilt tranny.

If I take off from a dead stop, or from a rolling start of 10-15 and punch the gas 1st to 2nd shift will hit rev limiter. All other shifts are fine, but it doesn't shift hard but doesn't seem to slip either. I really thought that a high performance tranny would shift harder. He did get the valve body reprogrammer from CK and from what I understand it is supposed to shift pretty normal until you get into it. Make sense? Its not a manual valve body either. He has tried the tv cable adjustment and it gets a little better but as soon as you push the pedal to the floor it resets the tv cable and I,m back to hitting the rev limiter. From what I remember people have suggested the govenor in the tranny...I did ask if he reused my original valvle body and he did..So it is a brf valve body. All I know is that I want to get this thing taken care of. I want the good fast hard shifts at wide open throttle. I dont want to burn up a new transmission. Any thoughts? [/quote]

I have not been driving the car very much. I still havent taken the car back to the shop. He will look at it when I'm ready. The car feels like its not out of first before it goes into 2nd. Its almost like someone changing gears in a stick shift without letting out of a wide open throttle, except being a little slow on the clutch therefore letting the engine rev high and the clutch start to slip. Also the tv cable adjustment is super sensitive. It will stay in 2nd all the way up to 35 mph. The tranny did this 35 mph thing in 2nd before the rebuild.
I bought this tranny originally as a rebuilt, unused tranny. It had been modified. Would shift very hard, but would want to stay in 2nd at 35mph. And hunt between 2nd and 3rd at the approx speed of 35-40. The valve body had been modified but no one knows exactly how. The guy was in Florida that did this original rebuild on the tranny. When my guy went to rebuild it he tried to get in touch with the original builder that had done the tranny the first time. He could not find him but found out that he had a reputation of doing unique things to valve bodies that no one else did. Thats about as far as my guy got.

Is it a real good possibility from what I have described that this is my problem?

I'm willing to go valve body if it will take care of the problem.

what kind of car/year used the mcss code trans?

"MCSS" is short for Monte Carlo SS. The MCSS had a CQ trans code from 84-85 and it changed to CZF from 86-88.
