Talk about a sweet big block car.
I agree that 10K is a lot. Checking matching numbers is key, will increase the value. Take it from someone that has done a frame off restoration on my 1969 SS/RS 396 4-speed Camaro, you'll spend way more than that to restore it. I never added up all my receipts out of fear but I easily spent 14K restoring it, probably more!Originally posted by njturbo
Guys
I have found a 69 Chevelle SS 396. VIN 136379K396701. Needs a resto. The owner wants 10k
What do you guys think it is worth.

You need to think and calculate how much restoration it needs. If it's just paint and an engine trans rebuild and is matching numbers then 10K isn't too bad. If it needs body panels, floors, wiring, as well as the above then it's not worth it. 396 4-speed Chevelle's weren't all that uncommon in 69, it’s not a 70 LS-6 car.... Also, you need to know what the HP on the motor was. In my Camaro there were 3, 396 engines. The 325 HP isn’t worth that much (all relative) while the 375 HP motor is worth quite a bit. Naturally mine is in the middle being the 350 HP 396.
Why don't you spend that 10K on finishing your stage motor, you're going to need it,m trust me!![]()
WOW, long time. The VIN is stamped on the block if memory serves me. I think if you look on the front passenger side of the block deck (which sticks out past the head) behind the alternator, you'll see 2 sets of numbers. The first is the engine code and the second is the vehicles VIN I think. I think there is a matching VIN number on the trans.Originally posted by njturbo
The guy claims it is. How can i find out for sure![]()
I agree. Being a life long Chevy person and having owned a 68 Chevelle, a nice 70 GS is awesome!!! If I bought another old car it would be a GS 455. Since I don't have enough room for the 3 cars I already own I think it'll be a long time before I own a GS. I need to start watering that money tree.Originally posted by RATROASTER
The title says it all. 455 are way cooler!![]()
