He says lots of clones skip them because they don't want to drill a new SS hood for the pins. He says they also used a certain type of hood pin and an aftermarket one is a giveaway. Crappy pics but I don't see any hood pins....
http://www.carrollstauto.com/site/I...lle_ss_silver/71_chevy_chevelle_ss_silver.htm I have seen this one first hand and it's truely a survivor. Notice the hood pins. There is another 70 SS on that site that also has hood pins. For that kind of scratch I say buyer beware.
I believe your right on with the pins, A buddy bought a new GM cowl hood w/ flapper a few years back for his LS6 chevelle and the hood came with the pin holes and hardware holes already drilled.

150k, I'll take a exotic Italian/German car, not no POS old car that will be worth nothing when the baby boomers all die.

Think about the future, imagine some of the ricer cars and what they will be worth. LOL

Yeah. that will get you a new Ford GT. 128 mph in the 1/4 Baby!!!!

Drive it for a few years and sell it for what you paid for it.

Insurance would be a biatch, though. I wonder what the insurance is on a $100K Chevelle?

The ricers are like a pair of soiled undies, If you dirty them up, just throw em away.:D

That price is crazy! I will never understand the people that dump major coin into something like this car and won't go out and enjoy driving it. I guess thats the difference between people like us who work hard on their cars to make themselves happy and a person who can drop that kind of money for something to look at. Its MADNESS!

>>> I agree BUT, Remember when you were younger & you wanted something but there was no way you could afford it??
If the person wants of has the money to drop on this cause It's always been their dream let them..

I went to Carlise in 88, Frank Spittle had a 50K LS6 Blue, Auto for 13k I was 1500$ short, Damm I wish I knew.

That sure seems common on ebay, the beaters, parts cars, and resto projects $50 and up starting bids have some pretty good pictures, a lot (not all) of the high dollar cars have few or one picture, whats up with that? Even some of the cheaper parts auctions have good pictures.

I have to say, there are 2 dumd***s messing around with this car. The onwer and the high bidder. What I could do with 350k is amazing.:D

This should be a wake up call to everybody selling their TRs for next to nothing. Although they will never approach these levels, they are still way undervalued. I know it doesnt have the coveted Chevy badge, & they didnt make 100,000 of them, they should still be worth more. I'm always astonished when I see 80 MC SS's for $8K +, or 90s Imp SS's for $15K. I personally think they are garbage, just hype.
If all TR owners added $5K min to their price they are selling for, it wouldnt be unreasonable.

Tell me about it. but the price increase may come sooner than your think... Check out this $27K THEFT RECOVERY GN being bid to $27K on E-bay by "muscle car guys".

Sure it has 1500 miles, but a salvage title and no Deck Lid sticker. In 5 years, I'd rather have My all original 24K mile '86 GN that I paid less than 1/2 as much for, thanks.

About the stripes, I'm not sure that would be a correct way to tell. My friend (his in his mid sixties, I'm 21) has a 72 chevelle that is completely original, minus paint. He ordered it factory without stripes.

Only thing he has added are an aftermarket radiator and a different stereo, but still has the originals. Plus the window stickers and such.

Car is no in need of a full restore (No cancer, just a couple dings in the back passenger quarter. Engine w/200K+ miles on in etc.)

Its a ss350 btw, I always ribbed him about not getting the ls6 :)

His does has the hood pins though.

Not all Chevelle SS came with hood pins and stripes. It depends on how the were ordered. I rode to high school everyday in a 1970 SS 396. It was black with no strips and no hood pins. He had the original build sheet to verify it was built that way for the factory. At that time one of the easiest ways to tell if it was real was to look at the dash. If it had the individual gauges it was a SS dash. If it had a "sweeping speedometer" like our Regals it was a Malibu or lesser. 70-72 Monte Carlos shared the same dashes as the Super Sports. But they had a wood grain panel instead of the grainey black. Then the redline would tell you what the motor was (cid/hp).

That is a low option LS6. It doesn't even have the power bulge at the back of the cowl induction. That was the same way my buddies SS396 was. But he sold it and regrets it to this day.

But in todays world all of the SS stuff is reproduced.

I thought people would disagree about the values on TRs. I wish owners would wise up & hold for their price. This should be its own topic, I dont think its discussed much.
