700r4 converter in a 2004r ?

Will a 700r4 converter work in a 2004r in my 89 tta ? My converter in my 89tta will not lock up. Everything electrically checked good and I pulled the trans and everything in the trans is ok that could cause the problem. The only thing left to do is change the converter. I have a used converter from a 700r4 I thought I would give it a try.

Only an early 700 converter will work but I doubt that the converter is the problem. Are you sure all the electrics are working properly? Did you replace the lockup solenoid in the trans? Did you check the o-ring on the end of the input shaft?

i have seen a converter not lock up, being the converters fault, few & far between thou. a 27 spline 700 converter will fit

yes I changed the selonoid first thing.Then I followed the electrical test procedure in the service manuel several times. In the trans dianostic chart the last few things required removal of the tranny. I checked the pump to case gasket for misalignment,it was ok. I checked the converter locking valve in the pump for stuck or installed wrong. I checked for pluged orfice in the pump and checked for stuck throttle valve in the valve body eveything is ok I was hoping to find something wrong. I rechecked everytinng several times everything is ok. Thanks for the reply.
