So I got this S10 with a 86 model going in and well I have a 700r4 and Im wondering cause the tranny shop said they make a adaptor to put the two together, but will it hold up to the motor?

I have one in my 86 GN and it is perfect no problems. It was running high 11's now i am getting motor built shooting for high 9's and had tranny beefed up also.

You really will be happier with the 2004R instead. One of the members here is just a few hours away and might do some horse trading with you. Take a look at Jakeshoe. He's just north of Fort Worth.

I run a 700 in my GN. I dont understand your post, but saw 86. If your 700 is an 86-up that is good, because earlier ones were the worst.

The 700R4 has a big spacing between the first and second gear. the 2004R is more evenly spaced so it is more effective for the 3.8 turbo motor.

Yes you are correct, thats the biggest downside Id say. Just recently some company makes a gearset with a more close ratio. I m sure its $$$. Ive always wondered how much the gear split would affect an ET. Ive never hooked, so I dont know . The 109 is so torky i think its of little consequense, on the street ive never felt it holding the car back. But i dont have time in another gn to compare.

Like i posted earlier i have one in my car people will talk it down. My car is at kdk performance getting motor done he did not like the 700 either. Then he drove it and he called me and said it supprised the hell out of him that it pulled & shifted that nice and gear ratio felt good. My other GN does have the 200 i cant tell a difference between them. But i will put a 200 back in my 86 when time comes just because thats what vendors here sell and people here can help you out with them if you do have a problem.
