Anyone ever heard of a 1980 Monte Carlo with a "hot air" turbo motor from factory?? This car was purchasedin GA,NC area. It has a small scoop on the driver side part of the hood that says "turbo"
Any suggestion if this is a rare breed or someone experiment??
Thanks

Its a factory job. For whatever reason Chevy offered the Monte Carlo with the carbed turbo for I don't know how many years. I do think they are relatively uncommon though.

In the May 05 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines, there's a turbo 81 Monte hot air 4bbl quadrajet car. Kind of interesting to see that setup and it has the luxury trim, etc. Production was stated at 13,839 Buick turbo V6 engines installed in MCs in 1980 and 3027 installed in the 81s.

Yea it's a factory power plant for a Monte. I remember my mom had a '79 or '80 monte with a 3.8 carbed turbo. If I remember right it had a sticker under the hood that said it was a expermental engine. It never ran verry well but look good. It was all black. That was it looked good till my brother hit a power pole head on with it. Someone bought it and fixed it up ,cause they came to the house looking for some turbo parts that dad removed. This one was in central Ohio.

That would not be factory. Late 70's, early 80's carbed turbo setups were all they did.
Then it was all dropped.

I see one driven by an old biddy near me. I would love to track it down & buy it.

That little scoop on drivers side looks funny

How much would it be worth?

Just curious, not that I know where one is;)

I always thought a Monte 4.3L with the Syclone Turbo stuff on it, would be a lil different.

Don't know but my brother traded a 84 Regal Limited with a blown engine for a 80 Monte with the turbo engine...and the Monte ran.

Hey Matt. Is that the same blue one with the big wheels on it? I saw it in Hollywood twice last week. I told the guy about our club, but he didn't seem to care to much.

I have a couple of articles on that car. That engine was also in the Riveria S, which was the Motor Trend car of the year at the time, if my memory serves me correctly...

yup, someone was trying to sell a red monte turbo on the boards a few months ago but couldnt get rid of at all
