Hello all,

I am trying to put my '84 back together and need to know if the original torque converter was a D5 like in the 86/87s? Also, the converter that was replaced years ago by a trans shop is stamped D6. Does anyone know what the stall of a D6 converter is?

Thanks

Unless it's a restalled unit, the D6 should be around 1300-1350 stall or so. My 84 T had a stamp of D7 all around it when I got it. Now has a 2800 stall D6 built with the proper stator inside.

I would certainly grab a D5 or a similar stall replacement.
A D5 is the minimum I would use with a Turbo Buick, hot air or not
JMHO and experience.

Yes

they are the same. A D-5 will work fine for what you are wanting to do. Yes, the converter in an 86-87 is the IDENTICAL one is an 84-85 turbo car.

You could probably restall the D6 to 3000-32000 according to pats converters.
