I just recently purchased a pretty beat 84 t-type.......black/burgundy interior, T-tops. Planning to make a GNX clone. Car was purchased for $1051 which I didn't think was all that bad. It is an interesting hodge-podge though. When purchased it had sky jacker air shocks on it.....cranked all the way up, 275/60/15 bf's on the back and 215/60/15's on the front on t-type wheels..back end covered with greatful dead stickers....a mess. I am fairly sure the trans has been gone thru recently, has alot of good parts, dual flowmaster exhaust with some kind of aftermarket converter, appears to be a new turbo, new adjustable wastegate valve, new coil and wires....... When I purchased the car it barely ran. All the vaccum lines were dry rotted. I bought the car because as bad as it ran on cold start, no smoke or engine noise. I am trying to teach myself about these cars.....it just aint clicked yet.

Sounds like your car started out that same as my car did - sans Grateful Dead stickers.

I pulled the engine on mine and had a look...despite the no smoke / no noise...it barely ran as well - the lower end was toast. Bearings all fryed. Looked like no oil change since it was driven from the GM lot in '85.

Advice - get ready to spend some bucks...you should consider pulling the motor and freshening it up a lil...just for your own sanity. Then you won't be afraid to step on it a little.

It took me 2 years to get to where I am with the car now - start to finish...she's been restored to like new inside and out.

How's the body ? How bout sending a pic to us...?

Will try to post a pic.......she aint all that pretty right now (well the wheels and airshocks are sweet :D ). Where do I post a pic here? Car had some records of mobil 1 oil changes(synthetic), may drop the pan.......don't think engine "needs" rebuilt now......will do it eventualy but that will also include porting, cam, forged pistons, converter, more.......this is my first turbo car.....everything else has been 60's 70's muscle cars (still have a 71 chevelle ss conv. ) I dunno......this is a diffrent beast. Right now it is a toy....don't fully understand the turbo/SFI setup.....not gonna dump a bunch of money in it . Body isn't that bad.......plan to replace doors and posibly front fenders ( I live right by St Louis, lots of regals in junkyards around here )

Hey irockwithdirt. Good to see another hotair guy in stl. Not many of us around. If you are looking for doors a buddy of mine has a totaled regal,(rear ended), with good doors. He's pretty much striped the whole thing, so it's on it's way to the scraper. I know that he'll let the doors go REAL CHEAP. Probably take them off for you also.

Let me know if your interested. Car will probably be gone in a few days.

I can feel the warmth from the hotair thats suddenly emerging in the area, its such a good feeling. All these intercoolers have been giving me frostbite for years.

STL

Is there somewhere to post pics here or just post a link? My T-type......gonna make a "I don't care toy out of it"......eibach lowered, polygraphite, big fat sway bars front and rear, GTA wheels, something nice but not so nice I can't enjoy driving it to walmart or the grocery store in fear it might get a scratch. Already bought a set of gnx louvers, used spoiler, looking for gta wheels, plan to buy a set of GNX flares off ebay soon. Could definitely use some doors as long as price is reasonable. My convertible.......red w/ white stripes and a white top......in a barn in waterloo......bench seat, 4 sp. muncie M21, currently building a nasty 327 (had so many smallblock parts laying around from when I was a kid figured I better use em), 12 bolt. I have too many projects going :p . Will try to get a pic of it next time I am out there. Am I correct in thinking I can make this regal a low 13 , high 12 second car fairly easily if drivetrain is solid, which I think it is. I have read the hot air recepies on gnttype and alot of posts here....just not sure what to expect from this little thing. Last 231 I had was in a 81 cutlass and it was a dog :D . Thanks, Kevin

If you can, get in touch with WH1 85 on those doors, hes a good guy. Doors shouldnt be a big deal in any case though. They dont necessarily have to come off of a Regal, Cutlass doors are the same. Plus we have enough good size junkyards in the St. Louis area with plenty of G-bodys (Speedway, Riverside, U-Wrench-It,Taylor's).
Almost thought you were describing my car when you said Black/Burgandy, GNX flares, and GTA wheels :) . Do you ever make it out to Gateway over in Granite City? This is the last week theyre open, hoping to get over there Wednesday and/or Saturday for Test&Tune. There should be alot of TRs (hopefully WH1 85 too!) out this week. If youve got it running half way decent its never too soon to get a timeslip so you have a base starting point.
Anyway, goodluck with the project!

Those pics are like a rewind of my ride 2 years ago....;)

Good luck with the project. Everyone here is real helpful....any questions - just ask away.

Yeah, 6sense is right, you can also use the doors off of a cutlass. That guy I know with the doors actually put the whole Regal front end on his cutlass. Lined up perfect, actually doesn't look that bad.

You should definately try to hit the track either tomorrow or sat. Just got mine running again about 5 minutes ago. So I'll be there.

Going out to wrench on the regal right now......was rainin wed......try to go tonight.... If I don't make it I would still like to talk to that guy about the doors. Thanks, Kevin

Good luck on your project.I'm glad mine is almost done.I started on my 85 before my 86 was complete so the last three years of my life have been pretty hectic financially and sleepwise.I got a few things I wanna get done before I store the 85.Its good to know there are some hotair TR guys in your area.Good Luck Get to work! :D

OK, spring's here.........starting to put all the stuff I have collected over the winter together. One question I have is, I have a set of GNX replica fender flares and fender vents, plan on running GNX style 16" rims. Does anyone have this setup? Would like to install Eibach 1" lowering springs all the way around but concerned tires may rub? Any advice appreciated, thanks, Kevin
