I want to begin building my new motor in the next few weeks. Should I find a block from an 86/87, or can I use the one that is already in my 85 T-Type. Mine has the 20 bolt pan. My plan is to get into the low 11's. I just need to know if my 85 block is durable (or durable enough) when compared to an 86/87.

And what about the crank and rods, is there any difference?

crank and rods are fine

my 85 did not have sps bolts in the rods like the i/c motors do so you may check into better rod bolts

crank is the same

i prefer the85 20 bolt block since you can run a single steel headgasket without any problems.

im running my 87 block in my car now but would not be scared of using my 85 block

if you debured the isides of the block i believe it will take as much abuse as the 86-87 block.

keep in mind the 4.1 motors that are running in the 10's and the blocks are very simular to the 84-85 blocks.

Thanks, that's good news I would prefer to keep the original motor with the car. Some of my other questions would be can I run an 86/87 style intake, and route the turbo to the front, thinking about running twins. Are the pulley's for a sepentine readily available.
