85 conversion question

Hi guys,

I'm a noob so be gentle..

85 WH1 that I've inherited, in lots of pieces.

The engine is half apart/ half together right now, and the turbo needs a rebuild. I'm trying to decide what to do next. I'm hoping you guys can help.

Should I intercool while it is apart? Maybe a turbo upgrade ( looks like the 85 turbo is smaller than the 86-87? ) It looks like there are cheap headers/ intercoolers available on ebay for these cars..

Has anyone here done something similar? If so, what should I be watching out for?

Do some searching on here...the topic has been beat to death...you should be able to find some good info......good luck

I've done a fair amount of searching... The standard upgrade path seems to be te44/ta49 + intercooler. That's cool - I've got an intercooler on the way and a line on bigger turbos. My main question would be internal vs external wastegate. Is there a downside to going with an external wastegate other than the cost of purchasing one? I guess welding and mounting, but that is the fun part. Pros? Cons?
