Will the MAF sensor and Coil off an '87 work with a '85 GN? I'm having a hard time trying to find a MAF sensor new for a '85 GN. Ebay is cluttered with the '86/'87 MAF sensors.

see gnttype.org for instructions in the tech section

you need the 1227148 ecm to run 86/87 maf,
i wouldnt buy a maf from parts store.... find an original BW labeled maf that works or go to the translator w/modern lt1/ls1/zo6 maf .
update tthe ecm and have the advantage of the 86-87 chips choices

ecm is almost a plug in except for a couple wires to run an IAT sensor (not really needed and can be coded out in the chip just tell your chip guy )

86/87 coilpack ign module/ coil pack can be used without the ecm but needs rewiring either with a caspers coil pack adapter or DIY by changing a couple wires,

coil packs will interchange but the size is different from hot air and intercooled cars , there was an adapter out there to help mate the new to the older

with the 1227148 ecm and some wiring/relays you can also change over to electric fan(s) controlled by the ecm

My car had an electric fan on it when purchased. I was wanting to go back to the clutch fan. The electric fan that is on the car now comes on at the turn of the key.

If I go with the '87 ECM / Coil / MAF, is it going to be required to have a electric fan or can the car have the clutch fan?

no you dont need to run an electric , ecm wont care
but if you go with the 87 ecm you can run a wire to pin D2 (low fan ground) at ecm to ground a relay and have your fan run under ecm control , it wouldnt run until the engine temp reaches the chips set temp , for turbotweak chips thats on at 168* and off at 160, for stock chip its almost 200 before it comes on
