87 Engine harness in an 85?

[Hot Air 85]

I have a 85 engine / body. I do want to convert to a 87 ECM and coil pack. Will an 87 engine harness work in an 85 car? Are there many if any connections to change? Am I creating a nightmare? The car is all apart and easy to change at the moment...this thought only came to me because an 87 drivetrain may be in the future as funds allow. Any / All input is appreciated.

The 87 ecm will work with the 85 harness. The 87 harness has sensors in different places, and the crank sensor has a different plug. Stick with the 85 harness.

contact Caspers Electronics and they have all the parts needed to do the swap, you will be able to use the 84 harness with only minor modifications, intake air temperature sensor kit, I would also switch over to 1987 ignition module, coil pack, electronic cooling fans at the same time
