Local guy here bought a 87 GN from the dealership, and they presented the car as having only 82K on it, and it actually looked like 82K...
i knew the car before it went to the dealership, and just happen to hear from the present owner thru a friend how to fix the car over the phone....most likely fixed it over the phone....

Turns out that it was sold to him as a 82K car, i know its 182,000 and have the carfax from last year on it showing 146,000 from the last titling

This has happened to another guy here in KC, and he was given HALF back of the purchase price, no lawyers needed.

what is the proper way of handling this with no courts for this guy?
i am just trying to help out

in NC the dealer would be in some deep dodo for pulling that kind of stunt. somthing simalar happened to me about8 years ago. I bought a truck from a dealer I knew it had been painted but the prev. owner signed a disclaimer that it has not been wrecked. well christmas day I was installing the new clearance lights on the roof, when I removed the head liner I noticed it had been welded & repaired. I had a body friend look at it he said it had been rolled. I took this info back to the dealer, they told me to bring the truck back & they would take me to the auction & I could have any truck I wanted. but I'm not that way I believe a man should pay his way in life, & I truley believe the dealer was un aware of this. a few bays later I went back to the dealer & told them i would take $10,000 & they would never hear another word about this. the next day there was a check for 10 g's. so I paid $6500 for my truck.:)

if the car works for him, as in he's happy find a happy price what he thinks the car is worth with that milage, then go back to the dealer & make the offer, if they refuse then tell them they will be hearing from the law.

that make sense, i know the dealership would be in DEEEEP crapola if the law was involved-
he paid 8K for it, and i figured ask for half back, 4k for a nice GN with lots of miles, and keeps the dealer from getting a butt whoopin!

good deal on the truck:)

I have a 67 regimental red 400 4 spd WZ hardtop bird that my dad bought in 70, i keep wanting to put a turbo buick motor in it, but cant seem to do it... i think the 4 wheel drums are a joke.
does yours have discs up front?

it does now! I have concidered the idea of a 66 or 67 GTO, with a 6, just immagine how unglued the poncho guys would be over that 1.:D
the dealer can't say, we didn't know about the milage!

if you get the time, PM me some info on how to do the discs up front-
i was raised on pontiacs and purchased my first buick in 98, at that point in my life i decided i wanted to go fast, sold the pontiacs and bought buicks:eek: never looked back-

67 Goat hardtop would be nice with a buick 6, heavy, but nice lines.... ive never had a GTO,....hmmmmm most likely id get a lemans and clone one anyway

blasphemy u guys are sinners

Any talk of non pontiac motors in a goat is WRONG ...actually I had intentions of putting a 502 crate motor in my 67GTO that my dad bought new. But my die hard pontiac buddies gave me a beat down and the 400 went back in. It does however have the edelbrock heads and a pretty decent hydraulic cam with 253 degrees of duration at 50. Technology is nice but I think Im gonna slide a well prepped 200r4 behind that motor since it works so good with my gn motor and that 4th gear is extra bonus for cruisin. I just hope the goats faster than my turbo car!!!!

thats the problem, 400cid with 670 heads and longbranch manifolds wont run 12s and get 18MPG-

put in a turbo v6 buick and it will do both, its wrong but im TOO SPOILED with the buick motors!!!!

now only if i could make a turbo buick sound like a V8 pontiac with a 744 cam... oh that would shake you to death...

cant have both i guess.

If Kansas is an exempt state (anything over 10 yrs), they may have an "out"..

It is "possible" they acquired the car under false pretenses as well. Dealers are shady, but it's "possible".. :D

hey warren, same thing happened to a buddy here a few years ago and went to the dealer and they gave him ALOT of the money back, all he had to do was sign a waiver that said he wouldnt sue.
sucks this dealer didnt do a report on it to check on the car, i knew it was a 100K or more car since i was the one who did the motor and saw how nasty it was beforehand-
the car has been in the area for its entire life, had 46K on it in 90 when it sold then.

The dealer presented this car as having only 82K on it, i wondered why it sold for so cheap....
take it easy

Same in NC, anything over 10 years old and you have no case.

odometer

first all states require odometer readings up on sale when you buy it you acknowledge reading sell marks paperwork as being true that statement if knowing is false is a felony Most dealer are liable if odom is working have your friend check his paperwork for odometer reading if 82000 he can call the shots states attn office has a section just for this type of enforcement and will hammer them fines can lose lic all kind of problems easier to pay you off not to report it

Ododmeter only goes to 99K anyway.

So perhaps they have another out.

Reporting what the odometer said might be legal.

How do you prove anyone told them it had the extra 100K on it?

Look at the paperwork in detail for this transaction and you will probably find your answer.

ALL dealers run CarFax on EVERY used car that they buy and/or sell. The dealer knows the history of the car with regards to the mileage. To play dumb is just that.....dumb!

odom

titles usually show miliage and dealer have to tell you and show you if requested mileage second any intended or implyed facts about the car is contractal as just stated check the paperwork it will tell most secrets

I think if the title says the mileage is "Beyond mechanical limits" or it says that anywhere on the paper work, there's nothing that can be done, at tleast thats how it works here in TX.

That happened to me on a VW Jetta GLI 16V. They called me to pick up the registration and tried to slip it in "by the way, we need to re-sign the odometer statement". They could not verify the actual mileage. I said not without a hefty refund. It was a large local reputable dealer (if there is such a thing). They said "what will it take?" and they took my first offer! I was pissed because I don't know how much I left on the table. It's Ok tho because I ended up paying $1500 for the car and traded it 2 years later for $1000. A $250 a year loss on a daily driver is OK in my book.

They will pay up for you to keep your mouth shut.
