87 GN vs 64 Chevelle 454

anyone have any ideas what a 64 Chevelle with a 454 supposedly once dyno'd by a prev owner at 500 hp would do in the 1/4 mile? My boss switched his challenge from his 66 chevelle with a 383 stroker estimated at approx 420 hp to his 64 chevelle 454. I'm sure it would have been close with the 383, but doubt I could match a 454 with my setup. Even with a light modded 454 what do ya think it might do 1/4 mile?

A friend of mine one had a similar combination in his Chevelle. It was a 525 hp 454 with a TH400. It would go 11.6s on slicks and low 12s on street tires.
Just try him. If you don't get him this time...come back stronger next time. I know if it were me, I'd be driving around with either race gas or alky injection and have some drag radials on the back.

FWIW My Mustang with not much more than 500 rwhp traps 130 in the quarter, times in the mid 10's. This all on M/T E/T Street Radials in a 325/50R15

500 HP at the crank or 500 at the rear wheels? Big difference


A 450 HP or so at the crank 454 with good traction and mild gearing (3.55) is an potential mid 12 second ride in a 3800 lb. Chevelle

Get some good tires and gas, turn her up and see what happens.

A big block Chevelle is just as heavy as a full weight GN if not more so.
