6SENSE the only reason I am leaning towards the MAF is the car runs fine
with th old 84 MAF it even idles prettyn good, It will not run with the 87 MAF at all I have been working as a mechanic for 20 years and I don't claim to know everthing but if it runs with the 84 MAF and not with the 87 then
the logical assumption is the 87 MAF is bad not to say it was bad when rredalty used it last just seems bad now. I know BLM seem rich however after 5 min of idling mister scanner shows the O2 switching between rich and lean
at least every second or so with the 84 MAF haven't tried it with 87 MAF cant stand the smell out of the exhaust way rich.

When I converted to 87 ECU I first used the 84 MAF, then the 87 MAF and now the extender Plus with 3 1/2" chev MAF and the winner hands down is the extender plus. You will not regret switching over, it also lets you control timing and fuel to taylor your performance.

Stupid question, but I speak from experience... When swapping from one MAF to the other did you unplug the orange wire to the ECM? (or does it even matter???) Mine burned my eyes in the garage when I swapped MAF's, then unhooked the ECM and started over. Just a suggestion/ question... Seems like you are definitely on the right track, good luck. If you can't find a good MAF local to try out, let me know.

I hear what your saying, as I stated I would initially have the same assumption. Just didnt want you to prematurely rule out any other potential problem and shell out the money for another MAF if not needed ;) Thats why it would be great if you had access to another MAF to try. Just my .02 cents.
Also dont get hung up on the O2mvs, perfectly normal for them to go back and forth like that. Only time they are really of any use is at WOT, or possibly at idle if you if you notice them locking on to a specific # or area (i.e. only high or only low, etc). O2 cross counts on the other hand at idle can tell you if you have a lazy O2 sensor if the #s arent moving.
