So I'm reading a post on Facebook from Buick Grand National copying a quote from the Minnesota GN and TT association about the history of the GN and TT. A "87 special T" is mentioned twice in this write up.

"
But there is one other Regal that must be mentioned for the final 1987 model year. It was called the T-Type Special T. It was half Grand National, half T-Type. The low-production variant carried a Grand National body, but the rest was pretty much T-Type".

The WE-4 was mentioned earlier and separate in the 87 year breakdown. Here's the 2nd part of it.

"
Finally, there was the so-called Regal T-Type "Special T." Brock Fisher of Davton, Ohio, owns one of the rare versions and explains what it's all about: "I guess that the best way you could de-scribe this car is that it's a 'half Grand National and half T-Type.' There isn't any Buick documentation that I could find that described how this model evolved, but the best I can figure out is that this car started Out to be a Grand National, but they ran out of interiors before the end of the production run. Thus, they came up with this 'Special T' which used a Grand National body."

"
Fisher explained that he'd never seen another of the model. "There are probably a lot of people that own these cars that don't realize they are really dif-ferent from the standard T-Type. But I want to emphasize that it is a legitimate variation, because the 'Special T' is called out on the window sticker."

Thoughts anyone?

Pics? Sounds to me like the guys at the plant had a little fun and just put a T-Type interior in a Gn. :P

No pics were in the thread. I was hoping someone knows something about this and has them. I'm finding this story a little hard to believe but trying to keep a open mind at the same time. The bodies are no different between the T's and GN's except the spoiler was included in the WE-2 package and an option for the T (T-43).

These cars had a few oddballs that they played around with. The factory Meth ones are pretty cool as well.

I find it hard to believe. There is no rpo code for a special t

The final year for the Turbo Regal was 1987, and it was the best by far. There were actually five different versions of the Turbo Regal constructed. The horsepower kept on its upward spiral to 245hp with the torque sitting at 355lb-ft".
"
First came the Turbo-T with the WE4 option. This replaced the straight T-Type option. Because of the weight savings with this package, the WE4 was the fastest of turbo cars, with the exception of the GNX. There were 1,547 sold".
"The buyer could also acquire a Regal Limited with the LC2 turbo 3.8ltr V-6. The luxury model sold only 1,035, which makes it the rarest of the turbocharged Regals".

"
And if you really wanted to have a plain-Jane look with your base Regal, but have the potent turbo under the hood, you could. The sales total was a surprising 4,268".

"
There were also two appearance packages available in 1987 to really spruce up your Regal. The Y56 "T" package, along with having appearance items, provided increased handling with a fast-ratio power steering system, steel-belted radial ply blackwall tires, and the FE2 Gran Touring suspension. There were also the N89 aluminum wheels and NP5 leather-wrapped steering wheel. The package was identified by the red "T" em-blem located on the front fenders. There were 8,547 so equipped".
"The W02 was strictly an appearance option that provided a blackout treatment on various parts of the body. Like the  "T" package, the W02 could be acquired with any Regal".

"
But there is one other Regal that must be mentioned for the final 1987 model year. It was called the T-Type Special T. It was half Grand National, half T-Type. The low-production variant carried a Grand National body, but the rest was pretty much T-Type".

Yeah so how do you know if you have one if there's no window sticker? I've seen some crazy T-Types and Turbo-T's over the fifteen years being around these cars. Hell I've even seen a Limited with W-02 trim. Base T's with opera lights...nutz!

This story reminds me of the orange headed seagulls that were "discovered" when they were building the San Fransico bridge. Biologists were having a fit trying to catch one of these previously undiscovered birds so they could be cataloged as a new sub-species.;) Well it turned out that some of the construction workers would, from time to time, catch seagulls, and because of he nature of construction workers, would use some of the orange paint used to paint the bridge, would paint the heads of the birds orange.:D

You could order the Limiteds with the black out WO2 package that eliminated cornering lamps as an option however, they didn't have any painted black I guess. :(

All T's and WE4's are half grand national, the good half, :p more speed less weight. ;)

Base Regals could get the turbo package and most any other option from the catalog.

Spoilers were added often to the cars that didn't come with them factory, I know I priced one the day I picked up my WE4. Dealers added them as well.

That last paragraph doesn't make much sense to me.

Especially, since technically there were no T-Types in 1987.

Have this post maker back up their statements. Documentation, something.

I call b s on this "special T"

The WE4 was introduced as a way to have a filler as the Grand National was to be a limited production. Unfortunately the GN orders took off and Buick just kept building them. Buickwe4.com has some pretty nifty stuff for those interested.

http://buickwe4.com/story.htm

On a side note, the Black was to be unavailable after the WE4 was rolled out. Im not sure if this was to be only those with wo2, those equipped with LC2 or across the Regal Line up. I've seen a few Black w02 87s( and chrome ones for that matter), but they do seem in limited(pun) quantities. Anyone have thoughts one this.

Also, Turbo T is the WE4 as noted on Buick's own literature.

See it down there in the bottom right corner? WE4-Turbo T Package It is high lighted.

Maybe this is where they got the idea of the "Special T" as it does state special turbo package there.

You so full of shit Charlie LMFAO!

Now after the info sheet Texas T posted this guy Brock Fisher got the WE-4 "special turbo package" mixed up. Makes sense to me and would explain GN body on a T.

what's hard to figure out. It's a freakin we4
<----------------------------------------------

For we4's being so rare and only 1,547 ever made, if sure seems like there is more than that on this board, including mine.

I agree. We should have a roll call for all we4's that are on this fourm
