i have a friend in tucson with a 91 firebird with the gutless 3.1 v6 in it, she said her SES light is on and it will not idle and run... cant cant really explain it more then that to me....

here is what she said :
pjsiqhh: when you start it up, it feels like it's bogging down really bad
pjsiqhh: the rmps won't get above like 1000 or 1500
pjsiqhh: and if you try to give it gas, it dies
pjsiqhh: the only moving it'll do is how fast it'll idle
pjsiqhh: i suppose that's about it
PureSpeed32D: so in park it will only rev to 1500
PureSpeed32D: or it will only idle at 1500?
pjsiqhh: well it'll only really get to 1000
pjsiqhh: it kinda bounces around there, a little lower
pjsiqhh: it's like it's trying, but not makin it
PureSpeed32D: is the service engine light on?
pjsiqhh: it comes and goes
pjsiqhh: it'll be on for a minute, go off, come back on

my question is can you pull the code on that car like you can on ours, a jumper in the ALDL port?

i told her to go to the local parts store and have them pull the codes but she said the car will not make it there. if i give her the GNttype.org trouble

thanks

Yep you can pull codes just like the GN thru the SES light

I think OBD2 didn't start till about 1996

Sounds like the EGR valve is stuck, happened on my G/Fs car.
Just something to check?

It's on the side of the plenum after the throttlebody before the intake manifold. Just to the left of the brake reservoir. It has a black cap with wires coming out of it, the bottom part is metal and you can see into it. Stick your finger in the bottom and see if the diaphram moves or is stuck, it should move freely ( with motor off and not HOT ) It has 3 studs sticking out with nuts on them holding it on.
