i just purchased a set of 980 comp cams valve springs and was wondering if i should use the damper or not. i also don't know if i should use the stock cups either. The gn i'm working on has 138k miles on it and i am worried about trashing the stock cam.
thanks for any info,
Brandon

I think that the jury is still out on this topic...

A) Some say to use the dampener with NO cups.

B) Others say to use the cups WITHOUT the dampener.

C) A few will say to use BOTH.

 :D

I'll be going with option "B" (I think) when I'm ready to do mine.

A. Leave the springs alone and ditch the cups.

Two cars have 115K and 143K on them. :)

Same here. Used Dampers but no cups. Works fine for me before the rebuild and after.

FYI...here's a post I put up back when I did this swap. I took my old springs, cups, and some comp 980's with and without the internal dampener to a machine shop and had the seat pressures measured at 1.7" and these were the results...

No matter which way you go, its all about the same, just wouldn't use both dampeners.
