I just put on a new compressor the problem is, when the compressor is engaged it makes a vibrating and low pitched whining/rumbling sound. This is worse after it has been operating for several minutes and the car is at operating temperature. It seems to go away when I increase the RPM's. However the vibrating can be felt in the car and the sound can be also.
If I take a pry bar and slightly put pressure between it and the alternator, the whining goes away. I hve adjusted it and the alternator several times trying to increase the tension between the two. I also have a new serpentine belt. I have been told that I may need a new tensioner, but I want to be sure before I spend that kind of $.
Any ideas?
Also, the compressor is hel on with 2 nuts/bolts, right?
Thanks
