I compared a compressor for a 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 5.0L to one for a 1987 Buick Regal 3.8L turbo engine. The 5.0L compressor has V belts. Hmm, I wonder if any other GM cars had serpentine belts. I think the coil plug (clutch magnet) is not at the same rotation. There may be other differences that I am not noticing.

Could you switch the pulleys and change the coil plug rotation?

Would someone else mind helping with the question?

Not sure, but fwiw, just bought a new, nos compressor from highway starts....about $230 shipped......seemed like a no brainer.

I got one off of a 89 Firebird with a V6. Only difference was the area where the o-rings go on the back of the compressor is designed differently but it was a direct swap using the metal lined o-rings from the Firebird. Also seen the same compressor as the Firebird on 80's S-10 pickups, Blazers and GMC Jimmy with the V6.
