ok so I need some help and my last thread didnt get me very far so please stick to answering my questions. I dont know much about these motors. Ive been stuck in the chevy small block world. I am building a 65 GMC van and I AM NOT putting another small block chevy in this one. I want something different. This thing only came with a inline 6 and has already been modified to fit a V8 so plenty of room for turbo motor and stuff.

What motor is more realiable? hotair vs coldair? year?
Easy to build good hp but stay 100% streetable and stay decent on mpg?
How much am I lookin at spending to buy a stock setup? I know chevy small blocks are cheap. . . but I dont wana get screwed on price on one of these.
Is there anything special I should look for when I go to buy one?

Anything else I should know about these motors would be great to know so please let me know
Thank you

The 86/87 cold air years are going to get the nod on all the questions. 24 mpg highway, out of the boost, deep into the mods. Both are reliable though.

For what you need, the complete conversion, go with BWEAVY @ gbodyparts.com or buy a donor TR, I went the gbodyparts.com route for my conversion and I have no complaints thus far. I would espect to pay ~$4,000ish either way for a mostly stock system.

Overhaul the seals and gaskets before you put it in the new car, the factory ones just aren't up to modern standards. The factory valve springs should probably be swapped out too. They are solid engines, I put 213,000 miles on my last T, and it was driven pretty hard for a lot of those miles.

If I remember corrctly in your last thread on this you stated you didnt want to spend alot of money...that kinda kinda blew it for keeping your Q on track dontcha think?..lol
Finding an 86 or 87 and your gonna shell out

I paid 6k in labor for my car and what a deal it was and have sunk another2500 into it so far...well worth..big fun!

I can get you a complete hotair motor for cheep, IM in Mich so depending, your looking at 8hr drive here .

If you want to save some money then find a hotair, theres guys on here that run em and hard like boost231, id look for him and pick his brain if he has the time

thx alot guys! so if I find one for about $2000 I should grab it? I still can use any and mean any info on these motors. Ill have one soon(that is if the restoration of the van itself doesnt come up with any other surprises like it has).
