I have had to disconnect my TCC solenoid to get my GN to idle at stop signs and the lights with out the TCC trying to lock up the clutch.
1) How much should I expect to be charged to have this done?

I have been quoted a price of close to $400. The shop said that they would have to drop the tranny to do it. I do not have a garage or I would do this myself. I have no problem paying a fair price for this job, but don't have any idea what that is.

2) How much more mpg can I expect if the TCC is repaired and working versus unplugged???

Thanks In advance

Drop the Tranny on a 87 GN for a tcc solenoid???????
I am not a pro and I did mine in 1 1/2 hours. Having a drain plug on the pan helps. Just get a new solenoid, fluid & gasket and easy to do!
Go to the turbo regal web site for exact instructions

Don't unplug it! The trans will over heat as the L/U actually allows the fluid to the cooler. With out L/U on a L/U unit it will fry itself.

Listen to RUSS and Six, don't unplug it and it's no harder than a trans fluid and filter change to do. I wouldn't exspect it cost much more either, solenoid is about $20 + what ever it cost for fluid and filter change, you should be able to find a reputible shop to do it for under $100

Russ...if I understand you correctly, you're saying if the converter isn't locked there isn't any fluid going to the trans cooler. So does that mean if we're in stop and go traffic and never get into third gear for lockup, then the tranny will overheat??

Thanks.

The lock up solenoid is cheap and if you have changed your trans fluid before, you should be able to handle the repair yourself. If someone is quoting you $400 to do that, then they aren't the shop you need to have do it. You do not have to pull the trans to do a tcc solenoid. Mark :D
