? about soildering wires in gas tank

I am modifying a TR fuel pump sender to work in a Malibu wagon gas tank. I have to lengthen the return line on the sender 3 1/2 inches to get the pump down to the bottom of the tank. My plan was to lengthen the pump and sender wires also with solider and heat shrink which is a better connection then a butt spice, my stupid question is will the solider hold up in the gas?, never soliderd wires before in a gas tank and I don't want to find out later that the gas effects the solider connection Or should I get a one piece in tank harness made like racetronix sells but have them make me one longer to the length I need? I'm on a budget here but want to be safe :smile:

I'm sure it would be ok, but you might want to check with turbofabricator to be sure.

I've soldered a couple tanks themselves with no issues.

I'd use Kynar or Polyolefin heat shrink tubing.

Wow, that's wierd man, I was considering the same thing while daydreaming at work today. I would like to know as well if solder will hold up to gasoline.

sandblasted and soldered my tank that was leaking over 4 months ago and still no leaks. I did take the tank out for him for easier access.

Have you checked the HS after being in gas?

Only Teflon HS is gas-safe.

Nylon butt connectors would be a better bet.

Check out Viton, and Kynar, and Diesel resistant heatshrinks, too which are also gas resistant.

Here's a poly O fabric one gas resistant as well.

Lots you can learn from google, I'm sure the original poster will find a suitable heat shrink there's tons of them out there gasoline resistant.

Some even work well around bends.

Some people solder better than they crimp, a lot better, and some have to do both.

Solder will definitely hold up to Gasoline. I did a very similar thing to a project and drove it for 10 years with no issues.
