I have the service manual open to page 6E3-C4B-8 and it says to remove the cam sensor and reinstall I have to disconect the 14 pin ignition module connector, all the spark plug wires, and the ignition coil bracket assembly. Then I get to remove the sensor. What gives here?

For the crank sensor on the previous page it says to check the clearance every 120 degrees around to make sure the clearance is accurate, is this really necessary?

Pretty sure its one 15mm bolt holding the cam sensor in along with a 3 wire plug and its out. When I installed my new crank sensor I used a folded over matchbook cover to set the clearence on one shutter and was done.

You could save yourself a little work by setting the engine to TDC on #1 before you pull the cam sensor out...as above, one plug and one bolt. Read the info on GNTTYPE.org for re-installing correctly. The crank sensor needs .025" clearance between it and the 3 pick-ups located directly behind the harmonic balancer....they're spaced 120° apart. Be certain to note which slot these rings pass thru before you remove the sensor. Again, help is avail at the previously mentioned site.

The reason they want you to check the crank sensor on all three positions, is because one "COULD" be bent. If you only check one, and turn the engine over with the starter, it's possible to bust the brand new crank sensor off with the bent piece you didn't bother to check when only looking at the clearance on one of them. I'm not saying you have to actually check the clearence on all three, just turn the engine slowly by hand to make sure the other one's clear without any scraping.

But why does the manual have you taking off the entire ignition along with the sensor? I assume nobody actually does this, they just take off the actual sensor.
