Ran a 9.1 in 1/8th mile, very hot out last Friday night. Thinking of a few bolt ons to get into mid 8's. Kirban sells a 3" downpipe for $185. I could use my stock looking adjustable wastegate but would it go over 20 psi? I have it set at 18 psi now. How high would the stock turbo go? Or would I be better off with a Gbody parts or Houston downpipe with the external wastegate? I only have a stock turbo and don't plan on upgrading it any time soon. Also, would I benefit from a 3" cat. converter to match the downpipe? I have the stock cat. converter now along with 2 1/2" dual Hooker exhaust. Also will probably need bigger injectors and a chip. Would 55 lb injectors and a Turbo tweek chip be good? Just want to go mid 8's in 1/8th mile. Will use race gas at the track. I also have Micky Thompson ET Streets and an airbag in passenger rear spring. Thanks for your opinions!

If it's the same 2-piece dp I remember, don't bother with it; spend the extra $$ and get one from Full Throttle. Stock turbos can go higher, but without richening the fuel system you will pop a head gasket quickly. A 3" test/dump pipe will be needed to match the downpipe (if you can get away with running no cat). Injectors? Opinions will vary, but I would think 50's would be more than enough for an otherwise stock setup, and definitely a turbotweak chip to go with it. You may want to check the "performance recipies" in gnttype.org before you start changing stuff, could be a thorough basic tune will get you closer to where you want to be without spending large sums of money....

Hey Rick, Sounds like you are off to a good start. A little more info from your timeslips would help a lot. The 60' times and mph can tell what your car is or is not doing and how to improve your times. You've got the right idea with your tires and suspension mods. Do you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and gauge and a scan tool like Directscan or Scanmaster? You should be able to get into the 8's very easily with your combo........once you have some cooler air. Oh yes, an aftermarket air filter and pipe kit would help too.

I wouldn't push the boost without some way to detect knock. 18# without race gas may be too much. I know there are guys out there that run that much boost on 93 octane and get away with it, but why push it?

The 60' was 2.1 sec. ET was about 78mph. I tried different combinations of air in tires and airbag, just couldn't break into the 8's. I removed the vacuum line from my 237 regulator and noticed fuel pressure was 43, so I figured that was pretty good and didn't put on my adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I used race gas and my OTC 4000 didn't detect any knock at 18 psi boost. I left the transmission in Drive the last couple of passes. I left out a couple things- I have a stretched intercooler, Walbro 340 hotwired, LT-1 MAF, K and N filter, and basic translator.

Hey i see you live in champaign, i live in mackinaw right now and will be moving into a dorm on Friday at ICC in east peoria, if you ever need some help, or have a question just give me a ring (520)609-8352 you can get 20 psi out of that stock turbo, i also think that you would have a better advantage with a new intercooler neck welded on, also do you have a FP guage like stated above? i have a Power Logger setup, that we could throw in to check things out when changing the boost and FP until you get a turbo tweak chip you can adjust, throttle body coolant bypass, and an intake pipe and filter, give me a call and i could take a look and see what could be done.

Thanks for the reply, Dan. I know a little bit about these cars, as my GN runs high 7's in the 1/8th with quite a few bolt ons that the previous owner did. My stretched intercooler is from Cotton and has a dut neck I believe. The neck is bigger than stock as I needed a transition hose to go to the turbo. We'll have to get together.

That thang just isn't getting out of the hole. Is it spinning? What boost are you able to launch at? What are the O2 readings? As far as the fuel pressure goes, some combos like 45#, some perform better at 41#. Every car is different. Tuning is the key with these cars. Use your scan tool to obtain the highest boost and the most spark advance with little to no knock. That is how to make power. With the goodies you have in that, low 8's or high 7's shouldn't be a problem.

Tires spun with about 8-9 lbs of boost, I think. O2's were in high 800's which would be high 700's on scanmaster. I have been researching Terry Houston downpipes and it looks like $439 is the going rate. I saw a post where they said it is in short supply. Will look at GBody parts website next.

Just my .02, but I would work on getting the 60' times down to maybe 1.9 or lower and you will be in the mid 8's. Maybe try a 4# launch. What size are those ET Streets? My 275-60 15's have lifted the front wheel about 1.5 inches!!!
