My old steel one is just way too heavy to pick up and carry far or load into the trunk for remote usage. It is a 3 ton capacity. I swear it weighs about 75 lbs. I would like to buy one that (a) doesn't break the bank and (b) gets the job done safely. I use good cast iron and steel jack stands - those I can handle the weight.

Damn you got that right, my jack weighs more then my car. I hate the SOB, guess I got old. Yes what's a good light weight jack???

The Harbor Freight one's work just fine, especially since you can get one for around 89 bucks if you hit up the specials or use the 20% off coupon they offer if you sign up for the monthly internet ad. You just have to wait for the right sale.

I have 4 total. One in each of 2 garages (two in the big one) and one in the trailer storage area. They offer a 1.5 ton, 2 ton or 3 ton application.

Walmart and Amazon have some nice ones, too.

Just be careful, especially of the aluminum ones. I recently saw one that should have been able to handle the pick-up that was on it but because it was either just bad metal or the way the load was sitting put the jack in a bind and it failed. It didn't just collapse, the lifting arm bent and twisted when it did. I didn't see the jack's demise until after it happened so I don't know if it failed right away and the guy didn't have time to get the jack stands under it or if he had just left the truck sitting on the jack and it slowly collapsed, either way it left him with the frame too low to get another jack under it.

Don't get me wrong, I love HF and shop there quite a bit, but for the most part a cheap tool is a cheap tool. So my suggestion for any of the lightweight tools, not just HF, is to buy heavier rated than you think you'll need and know what you are working with when you do.

My HF 2ton has been doing the job, for over 10 yrs...And the price was ok..Think <$200.00
Prices have come down since.
My Hein Werner cast iron 3 ton, has had at least 2 packing kits replaced. And, it cost a bunch more than the HF unit.
Or, a NASCAR, made of "unobtanium", for $2K:D

John must be getting old! Sure glad I'm not..o_O

I've got an AFF 2 ton with nylon wheels think it was #350 but I don't see that model anymore. I like it. Light and quiet moving it around.
