Has anyone replaced the stock balancer with an aftermarket one? I have read about the fluid filled ones that control at all rpms.....ones that rattle...etc.

Are they any better than the one that came stock on the car? Do the stock ones go bad?

The EFI'd GNs don't have a harmonic balancer.
It's just a balancer.
No rubber garbage to fall apart.

PTE sells them. I had one on the motor I sold to Idaho GN.
Made by BHJ in Newark California!

Are the 87GN's EFI? Are know they are SFI which is a form of EFI....but I don't know if the two terms are interchangable.

Do you recommend getting an aftermarket one or is the stock balancer ok?

I think what was trying to be said is the SFI approved balancers (NHRA required for 10.99 cars & faster) are different from stock....and more expensive, I might add

The 87 GNs use a balancer.

They are of primary importancel on a longer crank like a v8, I6 V10, V12 etc. The Power Book suggests one for heavy duty applications, IMO meaning pro racing.

If you want to change to a harmonic balancer then your subject to needing to having a SEMA approved one.

How much is that one from PTE and is it liquid filled? Ive been looking for one!

The only aftermarket balancer available I know of is the SFI rated one from BHJ. No liquid filled available. These are much stronger than stock, especially in the hub area where they usually fail.

TA Performance and I carry them in stock.
