I've seen only 1 pic of this where someone put their air filter behind the front bumper and out of the hot engine bay. I regularly see my intake temp sensor pegged out (150F) and this has to hurt performance.

Anyone got any pics of their relocation job?

At what speed do you see the 150? At idle? At 70 MPH?

Just at 0MPH, stop and go traffic. At freeway it's only degrees above outside temps.
Exactly. Who cares what the temp is when the car is not moving? Your not making any HP
Now at speed it's a different story

May be able to run higher timing in 1st, 2nd gear if my intake air is 50 degrees cooler on launching?

Been there done it
That's what the alcohol is for
You can cut a hole in the fender and put the air filter under the front
Bet you won't pickup anything except a clogged air filter sooner than latter

I will take your advice. Why does my car seem much faster though during the first 5-10 minutes before it gets warm? Does everyone's?

hello; Have you noticed when the ambiant air is cooler your TB runs stronger? I do. IMO a filter outside the engine bay is a plus and there are a few CAI kits out there. I have a CAI and my IAT sensor just tie wrapped to the OD of an area close to the air inlet run. I fairly recently got a SM and at idle this summer it just shows HOT and I know that. Just because it shows HOT I didn't feel any driving differances.

sorry,I thought you where talking about a TB but it's got to be the same.

Your car will be strongest at the 150-165 coolant temp range. Clearances are tighter. You can test this at any dragstrip. Run your car at 155-160 starting line temp, then run it at 175-180 starting line temp. It will ET faster and MPH higher at the lower temp. Even tho outside air is the same temp.

Now your chip is set to add fuel enrichment as the car warms up. Once it hits like 140 it stops this. I wouldnt recommend racing a motor that the oil hasnt been warmed up. So if your car runs better at lower coolant temps, you may want to look into the chip and how your fueling is setup.

TTA is different as it has "VENTS" on the hood to pull out heat. I wouldnt put an airfilter behind the radiator and suck in that hot air, but the stock location works very well on a TTA. Dont believe me.. do your testing at a track and watch ET and MPH differences. ;)

hello; Are you any good at posting pics? I know nothing about TTA but I knew a guy once who had a 6.6 liter TA. I'd like to see the vents on the hood of a TTA.
