I just installed a set of iron heads with studs on a stock block . and I don't remember the outside studs threads being that much over the bolt compared the the two inside studs when I tore down the engine . see pic . yes all studs are hand tight into the block with sealer . and obviously the longer studs are on the inside . I know it's most likely fine just seems odd and it's bothering me :D . anyone have a engine on the stand with heads/studs they can take a quick look at ? :) thanks .

Not sure about the stud kit but with bolts... You should have 4 long bolts, 4 medium bolts, and 8 short bolts.

The short bolts go at the bottom part of the head near the exhaust ports (4 per side.)
The medium bolts go in the rocker arm area. They go in the front and the rear holes. (2 per side.)
The longest bolts go in the rocker arm area. They go in the 2 middle holes. (2 per side.)

Are the stud kits the same?

Paul

Yep, thats how they go. On my 4.1, i didnt cut the thread down into the block deep enough and i ran out of thread on the stud, i had to shim it to pull 85 lbs tourqe.

yep... that's what I had and the way I put them in . The bolts on the ouside they look identical with the amount of thread over the bolt . and the two in the middle are the same as well . if I mixed up the outside/rear bolts the two middle ones would be to short . in the pic you can see the two longer studs have been installed in the middle . thanks 1chance I more than enough threads on the stud to torque the nut down . I just thought it was odd , I think I look at things to much . :D :)

all is good again . just had a buddy check out his . same deal about 7 threads over the nut on the outside studs . and I have the same 7-8 threads over . :) :)
