Do any of you watch this show? And are you a picker? I know I am and have been at it for years. Ive collected, sold, and traded some cool things over the years...meteorites, Schwinn bikes, fossils, Mickey Mouse watches, old Italian rugs, black iron skillets from the 1800s, old soap, automotive service signs, coke ads, tons of relics from slavery ie shackles and wood from slave ships, Victorian lamp shades the list is almost endless. Some of the things they find on that show are incredible.

I watch it, but discovered the show late. So.... I have the DVR set to tape every episode. Now I'm caught up to the current shows. It's a good show, I enjoy it alot.

I also watch Pawn Stars, but I think they are a bunch of damn crooks. I understand they are in business to make money, but to offer someone 20-30% of an items value is just plain crooked.

Yeah I watch Pawn Stars too. They rip people off something horrible. It kinda pisses me off when I watch it but people bring in some good keepsakes.

This weekend Im going to garage sale of this old man who owned a bike shop. His son told me that he has a bunch of pre WWII bikes in his storage. Im sure he's got some stuff there. He mentioned the word Elgin, my face stayed straight as he told me but my brain lit up. Hopefully he has one in tact because they are worth $$$$$$. There is one on eBay going for almost $5k.

1937 SEARS ELGIN ROBIN BICYCLE BIKE - eBay (item 250654054217 end time Jul-19-10 21:53:07 PDT)

I watch both Pickers and Pawn Stars. Somehow got the woman into them and I took her to a pawn shop for the first time. She used to look at everything old like it was junk...not any more;)

I watch both. I have even found myself staying up late to watch muliple episodes of either show. I am beyond addicted and I can not believe some of the finds they make, or some of the things that come into the Pawn Stars pawn shop.

I watch it FAITHFULLY... I am besides myself when they pass up other items.

I hit yard sales, Estates sales during the days. I always go for the cellar or garage and look for the GUY STUFF.

Best one I had was a NON advertised FIRE sale.. It was around lunchtime and no customers were there. The guy pulled down 2 boxes of toys from the attic the toys were all in boxes from 1954.. I nearly fainted when I opened them. I asked him what he wanted for the lot. $25- Needless to say I hung out ther and bought 2 more boxes..

I sold 1 car from the lot for $235- Still have all the other stuff.

My Dad was a picker till he died. When I was a kid he knew just about every little hole in the wall and we was always riding and finding lots of stuff from Model T's to old tractors to old farm and hand tools. Had some very old log working tools and hand planers that were wooden. He didn't like to sell much and if he didn't like you you wasn't lookin at it either lol

I have several antiques from the late 1800's. Piccolo's (spelling) in awesome condition in origional case.

Trunks, Shoes, Clothes etc. Just dont know where to sell the stuff:p

I like the show

and actually have a Scooter bike like they showed that my father gave to me when I was little. It is worth more than $200 to me. Never had saw another one before that.

That is the hard part when Items are so old or too old that you have nobody that wants the items except a collector.

I find stuff from 50's. 60's and 70's are sellable because people are still alive from those years.

Try hooking up with a good dealer or auction house. You could always try Fleabay but make sure you state everything about the item that you know and also state you are no expert cause FLEBAY will always side with the BUYER :(

My wife and I went to the Gold and Silver Pawn shop last week while in Vegas. We saw Chum Lee and Cory while we were there. The place was packed with people, could barely walk around in there.

$%$^%$&%#$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a GREAT reply and Fd it up!:mad:

Love both shows:D

American Pickers is great. I would love to have some of the old signs and gas pumps they run across.

Pawn Stars is pretty good. The interaction between the Old Man and Chum Lee (or chumley ... I don't know) is funny.

I used to watch Operation Repo until I found out it was all fake. Now it just seems stupid to watch.

It's awful easy to viallainize a pawn shop but you have to remember that they got bills to pay too. If you want retail out of your stuff then take the time and effort and hassle to find a retail buyer. If you need green money and you need it now they are a buyer for almost anything and they'll loan you money against almost anything. It's convenient and if you don't need the convenience of their services then don't use them. I have never pawned anything, but someday I might need to. You never know what life might throw at you. Besides, most of the people selling the antiques are making money on them even at 30% of retail. American pickers is the same situation really. They buy stuff that is growing mold in your shed and find a retail buyer for it, and they have to eat too. The downside is that it will eventually have the same effect that barret-jackson had on collector cars. People who have an old junk bicycle in the corner will think it's worth a fortune because a mint condition one that looked similar brought several hundred dollars on TV.

I like both shows but I've had a fondness for old junk since I was old enough to crawl over it. Both sides of my family were junk peddlers from day 1. And as stated in another thread on here, it is absolutely amazing what some people will throw away.

it is absolutely amazing what some people will throw away.

and what some people hold onto.

I got a late 70's coleco KISS table top kids version pinball in the trash on side of road.

Can you say CHA CHING!!!!!!!!!!! SOLD $100- in Untested condition.

A guy I work with bought a 1977 Gremlin go cart body for $35 dollars and it is like brand new. This guy is a picker for sure. He has got some cool stuff.

Well if we're gonna start braggin I will point out the 78 honda express moped that I pulled out of a load of iron going to the scapyard. 800 actual miles! I paid a friend $100 including parts to go through it mechanically and it is now my preferred method of transportation. advertised at 90 miles per gallon! I've started collecting the few things it needs off of ebay so i can make it look new. Now I think i'm going to start a moped collection, they are WAY cheaper than this f@#*ing car.

My uncle pulled a FULLY FUNCTIONAL keg cooler out of a bed full of stuff destined for the landfill. This model is over 2 grand new. WTF? Has that guy never heard of craigslist? You could get $5-600 for that in a couple hours.

I hear you though on the people that throw nothing away. Gotta sift through a lot of crap for one or two things worth owning, but that's part of the fun I guess. One man's junk....
