I'm trying to get my car on the road and have repaired the AC hose. It was broken by the AC compressor. Trying to pull a vacuum and of course I have a leak. I've traced the leak to the compressor itself. If I pull the double lines at the compressor and plug both of them, I can hold a vacuum. I have replaced the washer seals and it still leaks.

I have manualy turned the compressor over by hand and it holds vacuum better than it originaly did. My question is, if I run the AC pump, is there a chance that it might hold vacuum again? It was open for who knows how long and the clutch was disconnected. Wondering if I get the oil circulating, if it might seal?

Or is the compressor toast?

If I'm going to replace it, now is the time, since it's half ripped apart anyhow. Anyone have a good used compressor cheap? Dam, did I buy a cobbled up car:mad:

The seemly never ending repair process continues:(

Thanks,

Rich

replace it. I know it sucks. their expensive, but even if you do get it to seal (for who knows how long?), what kind of shape is the bearings in? and the clutch? My experience has always been its the high pressure relief valve in the compressor that goes bad. If its already off the car, and in pieces, I vote for go ahead and replace it. If you spring for a remanufactured unit, their usually cheaper, but its (probably) a toss up on how long it'll last. I'd get a brand new unit. And I know its easy for me to say, I'm not the one having to shell out the cash for it. Remember to service it with proper oil for what ever refrigerant you'll be using before installing (but check to see if it came preoiled)
