My te44 died after about 2 years on the car. so I pulled it off for service and put the stock turbo back on which was tight with no wiggle in the shaft. Drove he car 2 days and on the third I smell oil burning at a Stop light and some smoke here and there just like my te44 did before it started fogging. This all started right after switching oil to valvoline 20-50 from mobile 1 10-30. The only other change is boost was raised over 20 about the time the failures started.
I am really frustrated the car runs good oil pressure is good ...,
I pulled the intake tube and I can feel in and out play and some wiggle just like the 44.

Oil line blocked? Did you change it when you swapped turbos kind of sounds like they aren't getting oil.

It's gotta be getting oil it's blowing out the exhaust !
I thought about cranking it over before hooking the line back up to be sure though. I will next time.
I did prime the oil system by unplugging the ECM lead at the battery prior to starting fwiw. I know shaft whip can be an issue with high speed sleeve journal bearings if the viscosity is too high or the oil level in the bearing is too high..
Maybe I need to warm it up longer before driving the car?
I'm switching back to Mobil 1 though anyway...
Pissed off right now at it.

The old turbo sat for 2yrs if so was it in a controlled environment ? If not turbo don't like moisture and dampness.

Man, sorry for your string of bad luck these cars can be frustrating The 44 turbo probably has a different type of seal on the shaft on the exhaust side more of a flat metal ring that runs on the shaft keeping the oil within the housing and out of the exhaust. the stock turbo, a material type seal if I remember correctly it been a while since i had a stock one apart. as far as the end play goes the te 44 probably has a 360 thrust bearing on and left handed threads holding the inducer wheel on.the stock turbo will not have the 360 bearing and will have right handed threads on the shaft holding the wheel I have seen the nut come loose on the stock turbo the end play is not helping. with the oil getting in the exhaust housing.usually the thrust starts to develop end play after many time of acceleration and quick deceleration which is normal for these cars. But over a period of time maybe even years.for it to happen in a couple of days maybe i oiling problem to the turbo.

Read somewhere that you should always replace the metal oil tube going to the turbo when rebuilding or changing turbos, it said that the small oil tube would "coak" after a period of time and restrict the oil flow to the turbo. Said that coaking was the oil getting hot and solidifing, thicker and thicker, on the tube walls from heat and restricting the oil flow.

I took the oil feed line loose and pulled the power lead to test the oil delivery it squirted oil into the zip lock bag after about 2 seconds and put about 4 oz in the bag before I could get off the key. I hooked it all back up and let the car run for about 30 minutes.
Idling in the yard there was no smoke or smell of smoke. Weird ! I know I feel like I have slack in the turbo that I did not have before I put it in? It actually feels a lot like the TE 44 I boxed up to send to Bison for rebuild next week .
I don't
Know if I should drive it or not.

As long as there is not enough movement up or down to we're the blades are scraping the housing it will have a small amount of play between the shaft and brass bushing in the housing for oil flow around the shaft if there is excessive in and out play the shim (for lack of proper term) will eat into the brass thrust bearing sending brass shaving threw your oiling system not good .i would cut the oil filter apart from running the 44 or get ahold of bison when he tears it down to see how bad it was
