Not turbo buick related at all but I kinda want to ask.

Family member is looking at a 06 Mazda Trbute/Ford escape whatever. 42K miles 4wd V6. It was -5 the day I went and looked at it. Started if up and it had an aweful sounding squeek. Thinking was an alternator bearing, slipping serpentine belt something along those lines. Goes for about 3 minutes before it stops. Took it for a drive, drives normal, never comes back.

Told the dealer we want it checked out before she buys it. Got a call back the next day and the machanic looked at it and it isnt the belt. And his words were along the line of "the intake plenum is plastic and when its cold it whistles and we cant do anything about it." I call BS on that. First off it wansn't close to a whistling sound and the mechanic must be pretty lazy not to replace the belt first thing in my opinion. Sounds more like a food processor with a slipping belt mixed in. Want loud but it was more than a whistle.

Is this actually the intake leaking? Car Salesmen BS? Car still has until mid January on the factory warranty.

I don't know but it probably has a rubber gasket fit into a groove to seal the plastic intake and when VERY cold doesn't seal complety allowing for a small air leak and thus the whistle or high pitched noise.
Hey, it's possible.
