Got a friend working on a motor that he assembled and was extra careful to make sure he offset the ring gaps relative to each other. Maybe 1000 miles later he is back in there trying to find the cause for excessive smoke..... and notices the ring gaps (some of them) are nearly perfectly lined up.
Any idea what causes this?
I had hear over-revving would cause ring "flutter" and cound cause them to line up..... but I don't think this motor was over-revved.
