So this past Thursday I come home from work and I'm going into the kitchen. Next thing I know I'm in the ambulance with a neck brace on and I feel a sharp pain in the back of my head, neck, and my tongue of all places. Apparently from what my mom tells me I was reaching into the fridge for a drink and then I fell backwards into the cabinets where I split my head open and then I was supposedly on the floor foaming from the mouth and shaking. I was told that I came too in the house, but I can not remember any of that as the only part I remember from the seizure was waking up in the ambulance.

They ran blood, urine, CT, MRI, EEG, and EKG on me and all came back normal so they have no idea what caused this seizure, however, my sleep lately has not been the best and they said stress can also bring this on. In any event, they put me on an anti-seizure medication called Keppra and I'm not allowed to drive for the next 6 months!:( Gonna go take some pain meds as my body is sore all over (including my tongue which I apparently bit).

My buddy at work had this happen, mostly when he slept or even napped. Something about not enough air getting in when he was sleeping. Had an operation, small one, and has been ok since.

My twin boys had seizures when they were young. They were on anti-seizure medication for several years. Keep on top of this, it can be very dangerous.

I wish you the best man, I have a friend who's daughter has been dealing with verry occasional seizures for about a year now, she has had 3, Just when they think its all good she has another, no known cause either, Not tryin to scare you, Hope thats your last and it was a fluke man:frown:

DIET is 115% critical to you not having a 2nd run around with these. If you need Diet help or information, my father a world record holder for 10 years and counting for bench and deadlifts, is pretty much an experience expert on diet. He is no doctor but neither am I so I can't offer that help to you. But what I can offer is information, and if you need any in RE: to Diet, PM me! BTW he is 70yo, weight is 176-180, bench 407lb!

-try your best to stay off the pain med's, there nasty little suckers. I was addicted for 1 year after my 3rd open knee surgury.
take half the perscribed dosage, then the other half if you still feel pain. NOT trying to tell you what to do, just information of my experience
as well as my fathers life long experience of proper diet and exercise! I hope to NOT hear about this again from you brick!
Stay strong!

We lost a very good family friend to one last year. She was a nurse who knew the risks of some of the seizures she was having and taking medication to protect herself. She took very good care of herself and was always in good health. One day she caught a cold which turned into a nasty fever. Fearing the flu, she insisted on sleeping in one of their guest rooms so her two children weren't exposed to her germs. Her medication may not have been working at the body temps she was hovering around. She past in the night and her husband found her the next day. The coroner said that she almost bit her tongue off from the intense seizure she had. Very sad way to go for a 32 year old woman.

I guess what you should take from this is if you take prescribed meds, always have someone check on you or keep you in the same room whenever you are ill.

My mother has had a seizure. Twice.

The first time was while she was sleeping, she fell out of bed. My dad freaked out. I remember waking up to people walking thru the house wheeling her out on a stretcher.

The second time she was driving to the store and blacked out. Ended up running the truck off the side of the road, over a rock, thru a cornfield and into a ditch. Totaled the truck but she was ok.

The docs aren't sure what caused it but they believe it was due to stress.

Seems like they tested for several things, the EEG being perhaps most important. Maybe see your doctor and ask about another EEG. That scan may be done for 24 hrs or more though, unless advancements have made it shorter. I wish you well.

Epilepsy is one common reason for siezures and I hope you don't have that. You can live okay with it, but your DL can be pulled forever depending on how often you sieze. I have a niece with it and she does pretty well. Now in her mid 20's with 3 kids of her own, she was diagnosed about 10yrs ago. And an ex g/f and her brother(which is rare) has it. They're not bad off, but being older, don't do as well as my niece. They were each diagnosed about 25yrs ago. So you see, it isn't the end, but you need to know for your own safety along with that of everyone around you.

I have a buddy who is epileptic, and would have seizures 5-6 times a year. Never knew when it would hit, but stressful days did bring them on. He had a seizure about 10 minutes before he was to walk down the aisle to get married. Had to wait a good hour, cuz after he came to he was exhausted.

He finally got on some good medication that brought the seiaures down to one every 6 months, and it was almost exactly 6 months to the day between them for about a year and a half, but now its been almost a year and a half since his last siezure.

Hope it was just a freak thing.

Stay on top of this 86brick, it's nothing to brush off. I had a cousin die from a siezure. He got tired of taking his meds and the next siezure he had killed him with a major heart attack. By the way, he was only 24.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories/experiences with me. I'm not gonna lie it is scary to think about having another seizure, but I do plan on making some changes in my life to hopefully prevent it from happening again. I am 24 years old myself so that just goes to show that this affliction shows no discrimination in terms of your age.

when i was 21 i was in a car accident to keep it brief heart stopped twice lost right lung and spent 3 months in hospital. x amount of surgerys later was released 70lbd lighter and lots of meds to keep me going. was at the gym about 6 months later with my brother next thing i new room started to swirl and i woke up in an ambulance swearing at everybody they took me to the hospital and told me i had the worst kind a grand mal put me on dilantin for years just in case. several years later doctors weened me off meds and been good since 36 now so there is hope hang in there best of luck to you!!!!!!!!

Had one very similar to you when I was young probably 8 or so. Had a cut on my hand, mom was trying to get it under control then all the sudden I just fell back whacked my head and went into a seizure. Ran a boat load of tests and never found anything, it never happened again thankfully, just that once. Guess I just whacked my head the right way to trigger something lol

I had a simillar experience but it was caused from giving it. I went out boozzing with my buddies and opened the flood gates when I got home. 3:00 in the morning I had to go again but I was in the thick of sleep. So I get up and run into the Jon half alseep and started pissing. It was one of those 2 min deals that had me black out and hit the floor. When my wife heard the thump she came running in the washroom to see me on the floor blacked out with my pecker out and still pissing all over the place. I too busted my lid on the counter drawers as I was on my descent to the ground. I know, not the same, but still funny as hell now that I can look back at that moment and laugh.

Very sorry to hear that. That would be extremely scary. It's looking like I may be having small siezures in my sleep very often.

Watch out for the pain meds. I know stuff like Vicotin and such can increase the likelyhood for siezures.

I was on clonopin for a bunch of years for an anxiety problem but it's also very good at controlling siezures.

Exercise would be a good idea.

You might want to check out the scammer diet also.

Good luck.

Brick - very sorry to hear that...glad you're OK.

My mother-in-law has a short history of seizures. Basically she would just kind of "space out" for a few minutes and wouldn't remember anything. This happened over the course of 3 years or so, maybe once a year. None of the tests showed anything conclusive.

Then last fall, my father-in-law called at 5am, saying that Mom was having a really bad one and the ambulance was on the way. My wife met them at the ER. They ran a battery of tests, found nothing, and sent Mom home. Minutes after they got back home Mom had another one, even more severe. She was in my wife's arms when that happened - my wife had major fortitude that day, for sure. The doctors pronounced that one a grand mal seizure, and diagnosed her with a form of epilepsy. She also couldn't drive for 6 months, and is currently on meds.

Some notes that hopefully will be of use to you:
*Mom has a history of difficulty with nutrition. Her body just doesn't seem to process food "normally," so she has to take lots of supplements.
*She can feel these episodes coming on. I think it's called a "halo."
*Lack of sleep was common in all of the seizures, including the last one.
*She fractured a vertebrae during the last one, from the muscle spasming.
*She hasn't had one since starting the meds.

Best wishes to you.

Thanks again for the info and well wishes guys. To be honest now that I've had time to sit and think about it I actually feel very thankful that I didn't injure myself worse with the fall and that I was in the house when it happened. It could've been much worse than it was although I gotta say my ribs on my right side are quite sore from the fall. Been icing them down a few times a day. Right now I'm just taking Tylenol for the pain as I'm not too crazy about mixing meds, but after a call to the pharmacist I know for certain that Tylenol is okay to take with the Keppra.

my ex has epilepsy and she has two types of seizures, epileptic seizure and pseudo seizures. the epileptic seizures are brought on by light, flashes..stuff like that.. the pseudo seizure are brought on by stress and diet. she has them several times a night.

she takes a lot of pills twice a day, i think one of them is topamax. I honestly thinks its wrong that they take away ur licence for 6 months. i can't believe the ADA has not challenged this. I certainly see the risks that another seizure could be had and you could wipe out a group of kids but someone just as easy could get wasted and do the same. whats the difference will 6 months matter if it happends the 7th month? thats why i think thats crap.

Good luck thou, i wish u the best, i know i was a hard thing for me watching her go through what she has to. Maybe its not as bad but seein a loved one have a seizure can be scary.

The ADA? American Dental Association?

Keep in mind, a driver license is only a privilege, not a right. And if someone gets wasted and has a crash, that wasn't something doctors consciously could have say over, not knowing who it would be ahead of time. Once they(doctors) know you're a threat, it would be terrible for them to overlook that fact.

The 6mo time is long enough for one of two things. One, they could have the situation controlled with medication. Two, they could determine to continue the revocation. And if you get drunk and caught, you lose your license for at least 6mo and in many states, 1yr. Plus, you pay fines and higher insurance rates, etc. And that doesn't mean you even crashed. What's the diff? ALOT!
