Do you drink Red bull or Monster type drinks often? My Cousin had a seizure like the one your explaining and the doctors found nothing. They seem to think it was caused some how by him drinking to many red bulls. Just a thought i'm no way saying that it caused yours but might be something to look at.

Nope, never really drink any of those high-caffeine type energy drinks. I really don't drink a lot of caffeine in general other than the usual cup of Arizona Green Tea or the occasional cup of coffee once or twice a week. The Neurologist that seen me seemed more concerned with alcohol consumption which in my case is not an issue since I don't drink. She did state that lack of sleep is a factor so in theory I will assume if you consume higher levels of caffeinated drinks such as Red Bull that could be a cause of a seizure if it is affecting your sleep. I will question her more on this topic as I have to see her on Monday.

Steve,

God bless you and your family.
You really need to take it easy but be very vigilant about your own health.

Best regards,

Thanks John. I'm certainly gonna try to take better care of myself. I'm kinda forced to rest now as I will be out of work for at least a couple weeks as it looks like I injured my shoulder in the fall (it keeps popping out like Mel Gibson's in the LW movies) :D and I will have to see an orthopedist and get an MRI to find out what's the deal.

My 29 year old stepdaughter has had seizures since she was a baby. Started as petite mal (staring into space for few seconds) to grand mal when she was about 10. Her case has been a difficult one to control. She is triggered by flashing lights, lack of sleep (now she has 2 kids so that's a factor) and stress. She has been on dozens of meds. She's currently on lamactal and klonopin. 80% seizure free. Some people take meds for a while then can go off and never have a seizure again. Your case might be stress/lack of sleep related but I'm sure they will take a cat scan of your brain just to make sure there's no tumors. Do some reading on the Epilepsy sites. Be and informed patient so you can avoid too much meds and see how they affect others.

Steve,

I guess I just missed this post, but I too have had seizures in the past.
They started when I was around 13, I am now pushing 55, the last one being in the early 90's. I really could'nt say how many I have had over the years, they were more frequent when I was young. They always came early in the morning while I was in my deepest sleep, between 4:00 and 6:00.

I underwent every test they could throw at me over the years with no answers as to why. I feel stress is a major factor with mine. I have been on medication for as long as I can remember, althou I did stop for a year or two prior to my last one. The last one being the only one that I actually got out of bed, made it to the coffee pot and went out on the kitchen floor.

Nothing worse than your wife and kid's wondering, what the heck is all that noise and finding you at the start of a grand maul seizure. Or the ride to the hospital with the paramedics buck naked and being so out of it that all you could think about was, this sucks, where's my wife and is someone bringing me some underware?

I know it's scary but things will be alright. I've been back on my med's since my last episode, hopefully my last. My wife has been around for 3 or 4 and she said after the last one that she hoped she didn't have to witness that again.

I would like to tell you that the med's are a cure all, but I have found some down sides. I found that after a extended period of time, they can create a kinda strange feeling, somewhat distant feeling as well as a lack of energy. Nothing like being in the building trades and feeling like your head is in a cloud and you have no energy first thing in the morning trying to organize your crews.

Good luck, you'll be fine.
Get in touch if I can be of any help.

My wife has had them almost all her life, her's is from a chemical imbalance in her brain. They have her on tegratol and as long as she takes her meds she really has no problems. Maybe one every rare now and then. I have only witnessed her have one and its the most helpless feeling you will ever have in your life. All you can do is hold them to keep them from hurting themselves by hitting stuff and when she has one she is wore out for a while afterwards. Don't go to a regular doctor if they can't find out what the deal is, set up a apponitment with a specialist. She sees a brain doctor and its worth the money man! He keeps her from having them by monitoring her blood, etc and it works good. This is nothing to play around with!!!!!!!!! Imagine if you had been driving and it hit you, you could have wrecked your car, been hurt, or God forbid hit a family in another car and killed them! Find out the deal on this for sure asap! Good luck Daniel Ray

FYI to anyone that ever witnesses a seizure DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN THE PERSON'S MOUTH! A person having a seizure CAN NOT "swallow" their tongue. Roll them on their side if you can and keep anything from falling on them or getting tangled up that might choke them. Talk to them and tell them that your're there to help and everything will be OK. It looks scary but lasts only a minute or so. Very few people die during a seizure. If they have several in succession or long ones then get them to the emergancy room.

Mike, Daniel, Pronto..

Thanks for sharing your experience with this affliction. It really does help to know what others have been through with it and gives you a weird sense of peace. :)
