Have had chronic ankle and foot tendonitis for about 6 months with on-going Orthopedic medical care over this time. Went for my follow up appt yesterday and was casted for my condition to cover one month with a month or longer of PT to follow! Sure didn't expect that but will comply with course of treatment to get me well and in good physical health again. It is a fiberglass walking cast from knee down with foot/ ankle fixed in a 90 degree position. Sure makes sleeping and driving a challenge! Toughest part will be withdrawals from no physical exercise as I enjoy running and USTA tennis. Orthopedist says those muscle groups and tendons must be immobilized in order for healing to occur. I can't help but wonder how much muscle atrophy will occur in the process there. Anyone else had this before?
Can't speak for tendonitis, but I play/played alot of sports and I snapped my right achilles tendon in half about 3 inches above the ankle and after it was repaired I spent months in both a solid cast and then in an adjustable cast that allowed me to slowly stretch the tendo back to length (which it never will) and the atrophy was major, although I did regain the muscle loss and strength pretty quickly with excerise...good luck with it.
my right soulder was in a hard brace for 3 months then it was slowly stretched using the same brace...
also my mom was in a Moon boot for a heal spur, along with some problems with the tendons on the bottom of her foot.
