Hey guys my starter is gone on my daily driver. Has anyone ever replaced a stater on one of these cars. Do you have to lift the motor off the engine mounts in order to install one? This is my daily driver and I do not want to rack the miles up on my turbo t. I drive 55 miles one way to work daily so you can see why i do not want to drive my t. Any help on how to replace this starter would be great. Thanks.

Wouldn't it be best to go down to AutoZone or bookstore and pickup a Chilton's for $15? I've always done this with my daily drivers. Best money spent plus you get tuneup information, TPS settings, all the good stuff.

I am sure it depends on the engine you have. I had an 87 with the turbo motor, and I did it without removing anything major. As I remember, it was kinda rough with the starter on top of the trans, under the intake. One bolt from the back and one bolt from the front (side of the transaxle). I would imagine all the brazilian OHC motors being the same.

Sounds like the Brazilian engine[OHC],correct?
Use long extensions to get at the bolts.
You might find the copper strap between the solenoid and the starter body is broken.
They converted to a braided strap on later starters due to vibration breaking the solid copper.

goin to the shop

Thanks for the replies guys. I decided to send it to the shop. I hate front wheel drive. Worst thing gm ever did after ending the turbo regals
