is it wise to try and do this in your own garage with lots of plastic around,got to start eating walnuts for the shells....

It makes a huge mess,you can do it outside on a dry day if you have a plan of attack and use good materials.Do some more reasearch on metal,rust,coatings etc.POR 15 is about the best stuff I've used so far.
 
If you liked warped panels........ie hoods and trunks with hills and valleys.........I wouldn't trust a so-called expert in this field of endeavor.
 
"Baking soda" blasting systems might Not warp sheet metal. In fact it's claimed soda blast will not harm glass or rubber seals.

Any blasting, especially with a fine, lighweight blast media, will make a mess. Unless you have a farm or rural property where you can park the car in a field while blasting ...
