What ever

No not at all just comes under **** happened move on he will be back soon just like the rest of us that must race. As for growing up I DON't WANNA GROW UP I'M A TOYS R US KID Any way have a nice life and stay safe!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think to summarize we all feel bad for the guy. Just some feel it's unfortunate that a nice car got hurt by a dumb mistake. It could have been worse, and it's a good thing it wasn't. All of us have made dumb mistakes it's just some of us have better memories of them and we know what that guy is going through. If he reads here I wish him well.

I'll put it this way, I wouldn't be caught dead racing on that road, especially with a car that's set up for all out drag like that appears to be. He knew better, he paid the price. There's no defense for what he did, it wasn't intelligent. On the other side of that, he doesn't need chiding from the whole damn planet. The fact he's gonna either be selling what's left of his car or salvaging what he can from it should be enough of a lesson in my book, not to mention the bodily and emotional injuries he probably incurred. Rather then point and complain people should use this as a lesson, USE YOUR DAMN BRAIN, NO ONE ELSE WILL.

He would appreciate the sentiment.
I'll pass it on to him.
He was trying to solve a part throttle calibration glitch[just installed a new head he borrowed from John Schmidt-the Opel guy].
Seems he used the return road because he couldn't get to the track due to the car show.
He now realizes the lapse in judgement was a bad one.
What happened was that he gave it some gas and the car took off[guess it was running better than he thought].
When he backed off the gas,the pedal stayed down and the car kept going.
Oh oh.
I believe his story as the same thing happened to me one year when I pulled the car out of winter storage.
You probably wouldn't have even heard about this if the throttle hadn't stuck.
Could happen to anyone.
Unfortunately it happened to Jim and that beautiful car.
Get well Jim and let's get the new car together.
:)
There's lots [290+] pics here of the event including before and after pics of the "purple missile".

accident

jim rock is a good friend of mine, i was pitted close to the finish line from where we were you could not see past the et shack because of the hill, no one was down there except jim. there were other tire marks on down the return road so someone must have been doing burnouts besides jim, i took jims brother who is a doctor to the wreck to check jim out, we were the second and third persons to the accident, if you want to call jim names do it to his face but be careful jim is from the old school and you should see his new car 2200 lbs with driver twin turbo and its a little buick, jim just got on it a little too hard, the return road at salem is a lot better than most return roads at dragstrips that i have been at, just my opinion,:(

I understand he wasn't wearing his safety harness either which tells me he wasn't out doing a "bonzai run".
He just took it out for a quick blip.
Unfortunately it didn't want to "unblip".:(

old jim

no helmet or harness, it broke his right arm and cut his lips and face, jim has been dragracing for over 40 years what the h === he is over 60 years old he knows what he is doing, he just over did it, us senior citizens make mistakes to , old jim would give you any spare parts if you need them, and he cooks good free hot dogs, i called him tuesday he is ok except sore all over , he will be back running next spring, just my opinion,:(

I'll tell you one thing Odell:
All the talk about how Jim's accident makes us all look bad is a load.
It was Jim's mistake...period.
No one else's.
At least Jim took it to a deserted return road.
I've lost count of how many times I've seen guys at events boosting their cars IN THE PITS,against their brakes, trans brakes, etc.
What would happen if their cars failed there?
People should learn to put ALL the facts into perpsective before drawing conclusions or judging.
As wagon stated earlier,he did it knowing he the only person he could hurt was himself.
That's the circumstances he put himself in.
It was sad to see it happen to such a nice car,but I know Jim will recover and come back stronger.
If that turns some people off,so be it.
They can read about the events on the boards.:)

I was very sorry to hear what had happened when I arrived at the track that day.

Take care Jim. It's just a car. It can be rebuilt. I wrecked my car last year. It was no where near as bad as yours. However, I hit a concrete wall backwards instead of a tree. I was a little banged up but to be completely honest with you I think it broke my heart more than anything else.

We'll keep you in our prayers, and we will see you next year.

If you need anything from the Central Ohio guys, please let us know.

What kind of damage was done to the car? Was there any mechanical or electronic damage too?
