Hey Everyone-
I was just wondering if anyone had or was into first gen montes. I had one as my first car, I learned so much from it. I ripped out the 350/glide and dropped in a stout 406, drove to my high school with no hood on and did a nasty burnout in the principals spot!! I miss that car, Sometimes I think I'd trade my wagon for another one, maybe with a BBC and 4 speed. Enjoy the great North East weather!

This is actually my first post.

Actually I have one I've been thinking of selling. 72 Monte Carlo Custom fully loaded but in desparate need of restoration. Has a 350 in it now but came factory with a 454. Previous owner pulled it and put it in a pick up. Dimwit didn't know they made less then 1300 with 454's that year. Still has the TH400 and 12 bolt rear end and loaded with all the goodies. Power windows, locks, buckets, console, cruise control and even still has the factory 8-track player so i can get funky. I'm still thinking about restorting it, but had the oppurtunity to buy a 87 GN that needs alot of attention as well. Cool cars and I was able to get alot of information from www.firstgenerationmontecarlo.com Good site with alot of info and some good people.

Yeah since it was my first car I guess I have a thing for them, I just like the looks you know. I was around right when firstgen.com was just part of kevin wiles' site, I remember when Andreas first started modding his 71 back in the day, gosh I feel sort of old! Nice cars, maybe someday...

I bought one that was in desperate need of restoration a few years ago. At the prices Chevelles were getting, this was a bargain. It was a '70 factory big block, 4-speed car. Originally had a 402, Muncie 4-speed, and a 12-bolt posi. It was very cool to see the stock chrome Hurst shifter sticking out of the floor of the luxo-barge. It was missing the 402, but it was otherwise in tact. The more I looked at it the more I realized it was a money pit. I sold it after a few months. I screened prospective buyers in an attempt to find someone who wouldn't strip it and put the drivetrain in a Chevelle. The guy that bought it seemed to have an interest in restoring it. It would've made a nice car - metallic green with tan buckets. I had the build sheet and other documentation for it proving its authenticity - the guy I bought it from figured less than 400 were made that way. He also has a '71 454 4-speed that his wife bought new. Very cool car and many people deny that they were ever made that way in '71.

Jim I know all about them being money pits, one thing after the other all the time. That's why I'd have to pick one up that's in good shape. I'm happy with my wagon for now, it's fast, gets better than single-digit mileage, and can hold 6 people if i wanted it to. Do you have any pictures of the old thing?

I had a '78 monte carlo with a 383 stroker and th-350. I liked it but it needed body and was way too expensive and there's not that big of following after that year of mc. much happier with my turbo-t
