Just wondering.. In my grand plans someday I would love to own a Vette but am torn on which style & year. Leaning towards newer 96 up. But I like the 70-72

So far the boss was down at Carlise & let me take his 87 vert.
This vette has a narrow look & neat instruments. The engine is HO HUM.

I few weeks ago my buddy let me use his 82 collectors edition if I would buff & detail it. This would be a good car if the motor was different & the creaky sounds would go away.

It got me thinking if the 82 is creaky would the earlier ones be worse?

I've got a '70 T-Top that I put a roller-cammed AFR aluminum headed 406 motor in and it does some creaking but the motor runs good and sounds cool. The young kids just stop and stare because it's so unlike the everyday cars out there now.:)

I had a 69 'vert with both tops. The 69-69 didn't have the little molded in mud flaps behind the wheel wells, so it got dirty on the sides from barely wet roads. It had the base 300hp and TH400 with 2.73 gears. Even with my timing off and never putting a tune on it, I still kicked the crap out a new 5.0 5 speed.

I had an '88 dark blue with a body kit and aftermarket wheels. Looked great but what a piece of crap! If I ever get another vette again, I would go for the '68-72 era with the chrome bumpers. Too cool!

I've never owned a 'Vette (yet). I've driven several. The C4 did have problems with creaks and noises. They quite literally would be a rattle and squeak trap one day and solid the next. Depending on conditions.

As for the C5, they are pretty damn solid cars. Amazingly solid for a Vette. For a time they rivaled the Aurora in structural integrity.

I've always had a place in my heart for the C3, but as you said, like the 82, they are Ho-hum engines. The Cross fire... FORGET IT!

The TPI is the C4s are screamers, but not bad either. My father's Monte Carlo SS has a 305 TPI to replace the quadrajunk and I'm actually impressed with it's drivability characteristics. I did that swap after many attempts at getting the quadrajunk just right.

So you're hoping on a big inheritance? Hehe. The wife will make sure you NEVER get a Vette if you get the money for one. As it is she can't stand you having a second car and a junky PU for yard waste. No way would you be allowed 3 cars and a dirt bike. Better make a model of one and keep it on your shelf, that's as close as your going to get!:D

I have a 97 C5 m6 coupe.
It is amazing how it attracts haters just driving down the road.
Females love it though.;)
It's a fun car to drive, gets good gas mileage, has good power, stops on a dime and handles like it's on a rail.
The insurance on it isn't anymore than any other car.
I have been thinking about selling/trading it out for a Z06 though:D

Owned a '66 Sting Ray 2 top Roadster for 12 yrs selling it almost 10 yrs ago. Great car, and easy to work on. I doubled my investment over that time period. Would I own another? No, my main concern was ATTITUDE of the owners. Seems I just didn't fit in especially as a young buck then with a classic Sting Ray. Buicks suit me much, much better. I still see this attitude with many of the owners of those cars. Just something I do not want to be part of. If you get one, don't forget your humble Buick roots!

I own a C-2, as you can see by my sig., and love it. It's modified, fun to drive, and continues to climb in value. But no way can be a daily driver. Funny observation: women all the time make comments about the Vette, but guys make comments about the GN.

BTW, I've found that there are basically two types of owners of older Vettes. Those, like me, who like to drive the beasts and don't mind upgrading to make it faster, safer, and more reliable and those who think the car belongs in a rolling museum with only numbers matching parts, etc.

It's a car you have to know how to DRIVE. These cars have no onboard computers, rough transmissions, and brakes, suspensions, and tires from a bygone era, etc. It goes like stink but stopping and turning at speed can be really scary sometimes.

One more note. I'm always tweaking the car and buying parts from across the nation to install. As an example, this week I'm installing a larger fan and removing the fan clutch. My "big block" copper/brass radiator, and original engine driven fan were not doing the job on hot days.

I have a 71 4 speed t-top car it is fun to drive out to eat on the weekends or local cruise spots but it get old quick. Rough ride/ poor brakes/handeling/rattles exc.compared to the buick. I enjoy all benifits of the evil black car just a little more:) I had a 90 vette hated it JUNK.. always something wrong with it. been driving alot of c5's lately they seem way better..... spend you money on the buck and make it handel/brake everthing. That's what I'm doing now.
