Yep, coil packs tend to fail and ignition modules seem to be pretty reliable. Only recommend GM replacement coils. Crap you can buy at the local part stores are junk IMHO. Haven't seen a good one yet.
Only real good way to test coil packs/modules is using Caspers coil pack tester. Otherwise you can ohm between each individual coil and see what readings you get (11-13K ohms is good) but it won't necessarily tell you if it misfires at certain rpms like a Caspers tester will.
