One of my friends made a good point today. Look at how big the exhaust inlet on your turbo is. Now if all exhaust goes through that then you won't outflow anything equal or bigger than that. Now I dunno if this would really work this way but it makes sense in your head or atleast it does for me. But basically 3" is plenty big.
 
just figured bigger pipes would flow better even with muffler

then no need to use dump pipe
 
forget a flowstoppper muffler I mean master they are not designed for turbo cars a cheepo dynomax is fine
 
Thermodynamics 101

The inlet to the turbo is smaller than the outlet to keep the inlet exhaust energy (total pressure and temperature) up. The exhaust is simply expanding through the turbine. As it expands, the temperature and pressure is reduced resulting in a net loss of energy in the exhaust gas. That lost energy is what goes to the shaft to turn the compressor. Thus one would think the less back pressure the better...
